Toyota prepares plug-in hybrid Corolla Deck pickup to compete with Fiat Toro in Brazil

Toyota is developing an intermediate pickup truck called the Corolla Deck, designed to compete directly with the Fiat Toro. According to exclusive information from Autoesporte, this new model is expected to launch in the Brazilian market by the end of 2027.

Internally identified by the code 150D, the pickup already has its name registered in the country. The term 'deck,' in English, refers to the cargo area of a utility vehicle.

The manufacturing of this vehicle will take place at the Sorocaba plant in the state of São Paulo, where the Corolla Cross SUV is already produced. This project is part of an R$ 11 billion investment plan that Toyota announced for Brazil in 2024.

The Corolla Deck will use the structural platform of the Corolla Cross. This connection was confirmed in June when the pickup was spotted in tests in Brazil already featuring its final bodywork. Thus, it will preserve the identity of the Corolla line, but with a redesign in the central and rear sections.

Like the Toro and the Rampage, the pickup will adopt a monocoque structure, similar to that of a passenger car, unlike work trucks that use a separate chassis, such as the Hilux.

The major technical differential will be the inclusion of a plug-in flex hybrid system, capable of being externally charged and fueled with ethanol or gasoline, combined with 4x4 traction. This technology will mark the brand's debut in this segment.

According to data from the Autos Segredos website, the mechanical unit should combine a 2.0 combustion engine with electric motors, similar to the plug-in Prius, generating a combined power of 223 hp. However, the final values for the Brazilian version, adapted for ethanol and gasoline, await official approval.

The entry-level versions of the Corolla Deck will be equipped only with the 2.0 flex engine from the Corolla Cross, without the addition of electrification. With this set of features, the Corolla Deck will enter the market to challenge competitors such as the Fiat Toro, Ram Rampage, and Renault Niagara.
