Google integrates voice search with AI into Gmail, launching Gmail Live and new features for Docs and Keep

Google has started making Gmail Live available, an artificial intelligence-based feature that allows locating data within emails through voice queries. This functionality enables the user to find information in their inbox without needing to navigate through long message threads.

Furthermore, the company is introducing updates to the Docs and Keep applications, offering functionalities that assist in document creation and in converting spoken ideas into well-structured notes. Access to these features depends on the subscribed plan.

Instead of typing search terms and opening multiple messages, the user can simply ask Gmail Live what they are looking for. The operation of this tool is similar to voice interactions with Gemini, but it has been specifically adjusted to perform searches within the inbox content.

Google exemplifies the use of the feature with questions such as: 'What is my flight's boarding gate?' or 'What is happening at my child's school this week?'. According to the company, the system analyzes the emails and provides answers promptly.

Announced during the Google I/O event last month, Gmail Live has left the beta phase and began distribution this week.

In the case of Docs Live, the user describes the type of document they wish to create, and the artificial intelligence generates an initial draft. For this, the tool has the ability to consult information present in Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the web itself. It also assists in adjusting the textual tone of the document.

Keep Live, on the other hand, has the function of converting dictated thoughts into organized notes. An example presented by Google shows a person who planned to paint their child's room over the weekend and needs materials and guidance to carry out the task; the tool, in this scenario, prepares a shopping list and a step-by-step guide.

Google defines the proposal of Keep Live as a method to 'capture, structure, and refine your ideas into organized and practical notes.'

These features meet distinct demands: Gmail Live and Keep Live are available to subscribers of the Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans. On the other hand, Docs Live is limited to Pro and Ultra plans. All three tools will also be made available to Google Workspace corporate clients, although the company has not yet defined a date for this expansion.

With these launches, Google begins to offer voice commands for various daily activities, ranging from searching for data in emails to writing documents and planning activities.

Google will increase the visibility of links in Gemini's AI-generated summaries

Google has announced changes to its Artificial Intelligence summaries created by Gemini within the search engine. Currently, a simple search displays an AI-generated explanation as the main result, accompanied by some source links. The new strategy aims to give greater prominence to these pages, making them clickable right at the beginning of the answers.

Additionally, a new carousel will be implemented below the AI summary, displaying the most relevant news, along with a section called "dive deeper," which will contain more highlighted links. The overall objective is to optimize the redirection of users to the websites that served as the basis for generating the summary.

It is important to note that Google has faced litigation in the United States due to allegations of commercial harm to news site and digital service owners. Recently, Judge Amit Mehta, based in Washington, acknowledged this issue, although he did not classify it as an antitrust case.

With this update, Google will modify the presentation of search results. Although the AI summary will continue to occupy a significant portion of the first page, it will start including specific excerpts with interactive links. The final box containing the sources used to create the explanation will remain visible.

In journalistic searches, the AI will present, immediately after a brief explanation, a carousel with several related links in larger boxes, which facilitates visualization and encourages clicking for a more detailed understanding. This will then be followed by the "dive deeper" section, which deepens the topic with a list of correlated pages. All of this will occur before the traditional results that existed before Gemini was introduced into searches.

The lawsuits filed against Google stem from the decrease in traffic from search, which reached over 31%, according to recent data. Many portals provide their content for free on the internet but depend on user visits and ad views to maintain operational viability.

With the growth of AIs, a change in public behavior is observed. According to the Search Engine Land portal, 37% of consumers already use artificial intelligence in their searches before making a purchase, for example. In addition to this change in habit, Google's AI summaries represent an additional layer of access to the sites indexed on the results page.
