Mirziyoyev announced plans to build a second and third NPP in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of constructing a second and third nuclear power plants. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev plans to discuss the construction of the second NPP with new investors and partners.

The head of state emphasized that the development of nuclear energy is a priority direction for the country. He noted that thanks to the growth in uranium production and investments in this area, Uzbekistan has accumulated significant experience and potential.

Mirziyoyev stated: 'We have started the construction of the first nuclear power plant. We have plans to build a second and a third. Tomorrow we will discuss the construction of the second nuclear power plant with our new partners and investors.'

The first nuclear project is currently being implemented in the Farish district of Jizzakh region. On June 4, the presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin, jointly launched the construction of the first unit of the integrated NPP via video conference, during which the 'first concrete' was poured into the foundation of the future station.

This project includes two VVER-1000 type units and two RITM-200N reactors. According to forecasts, after reaching design capacity, the station will be able to generate approximately 15.4 billion kWh of electricity annually, which will cover over 15% of the country's energy needs.
