American scientists documented a case in a boy suffering from Krabbe disease. An epidural tumor developed in the child after undergoing experimental gene therapy.
The cause of this complication was the insertion of the therapeutic gene promoter directly into the patient's DNA. This led to a significant increase in the activity of an oncogene that was under the control of this promoter.
