Moises Caicedo aims for development and adoption of a leadership role at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has expressed his desire to continue improving and contributing more to the club's work, describing his time at Stamford Bridge as a journey that fostered his growth as a player and a person.

The 24-year-old Ecuadorian international joined Chelsea in August 2023 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team's midfield. After missing matches early in the current season, Caicedo returned to action against Bournemouth in an English Premier League match on Saturday and delivered an impressive performance in Chelsea's 5-1 victory.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Caicedo noted that the difficulties he faced in his first season helped him develop and gain valuable experience. He stated in an interview published by the club: 'For me, it was a big journey, more than three special years at one of the best clubs in the world.'

He added that the challenging moments of the first season contributed to his growth and continuous development, allowing him to reach his current standing. Caicedo emphasized his gratitude for the support received from the club and expressed his determination to reciprocate through his performances.

The midfielder remarked: 'Right now, I am just enjoying trying to do everything for this club because they gave me everything. They helped me with everything, and I have grown up a lot because of them. Now I have more experience, I am more mature, and I just want to keep learning and doing what I do.'

Caicedo also acknowledged the responsibility associated with being part of Chelsea's leadership group. Although he prefers to demonstrate leadership through actions rather than words, he mentioned that he is working on becoming more vocal on the pitch. He noted that coaches advise him to improve communication on the field, knowing he is a leader, but believes it would be better if he started communicating more with teammates. He added that he tries his best, but it is not his nature, so when he cannot speak, he tries to show even more.

The midfielder expressed his desire to continue delighting fans with consistent performances and hopes to win more trophies with the London club. Caicedo considers Chelsea his home because the club treats him as if he has been there for a long time. He concluded: 'The only thing I can say is that I want to always stay the same, but even more on the pitch. I want to always show my teammates, coaches, and fans what I am capable of.'
