South African children aged 15 and under can now visit Robben Island for free until the end of October 2026. This initiative allows families to familiarize themselves with one of the country's most significant historical sites.
The Robben Island Museum has introduced a special NextGen Heritage Free Pass to make the island's history more accessible to young visitors. Children are entitled to free entry if accompanied by a paying adult.
According to information received via IOL from Cape Times, the promotional offer is valid from June 1 to October 31, 2026. During this period, daily tours are available departing at 9:00, 11:00, and 13:00.
The ticket price for adults is 400 South African Rand per person, while additional children are charged 210 South African Rand. Anyone can book tickets through the official Robben Island Museum website.
Robben Island holds immense significance for South African history as it served as a prison for political prisoners during apartheid. Nelson Mandela was among the inmates, spending 18 years on the island.
The goal of the NextGen Heritage Free Pass program is to encourage children to study the country's history, as well as to become acquainted with the people and events that shaped the path to democracy. Visitors can explore the island's historical sites, learn about its role in the fight for freedom, and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Families interested in using this promotion are advised to make their booking online before the end of the promotion on October 31, 2026.
