Revémont Chapel will be transformed into single accommodation by the city hall

The Revémont chapel, which initially lost its religious function and later faced the risk of collapse, is the subject of a preservation project.

Committed to maintaining this collective heritage, the city hall, which owns the property, has decided to convert the chapel into an exclusive lodging facility.

Publisher reports that Sally Rooney's books cannot be sold in the UK due to the ban on Palestine Action

Irish writer Sally Rooney can no longer sell her books in the United Kingdom. Her publisher, Faber, announced this on Wednesday, citing Rooney's support for the activist group Palestine Action.

Previously, Rooney publicly expressed solidarity with this group, which was designated a 'terrorist' organization by the UK government in July 2025. It is worth noting that this group does not have such a ban in Ireland, where Rooney resides.

In an official statement on its website, Faber explained that current UK legislation has created conditions under which the publisher cannot transfer revenue from sales of Sally Rooney's work in the UK. The publisher deemed this situation 'unacceptable' for a publisher because it prevents them from passing on earnings to the author.

Consequently, the British publisher announced that, after reaching a full agreement with Sally, they decided to cease supplying her works in the UK in any format. Faber confirmed, however, that it will continue to sell Rooney's works in other countries and regions.

The author of bestsellers 'Normal People' and 'Intermezzo' had previously stated her intention to donate the income received to Palestine Action. Furthermore, she appealed to the High Court of London, noting that this ban could affect freedom of expression.

In a statement distributed via AFP, Rooney emphasized that fulfilling contracts for the publication of her works in the UK could now constitute a serious criminal offense. In conclusion, the author confirmed that after thorough discussion and with her full consent, the publisher Faber decided to stop supplying her works in the territory of Great Britain.

New species of red algae from South Africa named after Cape Town University scientist

A new species of red algae has recently been identified and named in honor of Professor John J. Bolton, a distinguished professor at the University of Cape Town (UCT). This recognition acknowledges decades of research into the marine biodiversity of South Africa.

The species, named Mzanzia boltonii, is endemic to South Africa, meaning it is found only in nature there. This discovery highlights how much more there is to study about life along the coast, even among species that scientists have been studying for many years.

The finding resulted from an international study published in the journal Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution. Using genetic data, researchers determined that South African samples previously classified as Prionitis filiformis belonged to a separate evolutionary lineage. These results led to the designation of a new genus, Mzanzia, and the description of the species Mzanzia boltonii.

The genus name derives from the word uMzantsi, which is a word in the isiXhosa and isiZulu languages meaning 'southern'. The species name commemorates Bolton's contribution to the study of algae in South Africa.

Bolton's recognition reflects years of collaboration between UCT and Ghent University in Belgium. In the late 1990s, he established a postgraduate exchange program between the two institutions, which fostered the development of research on algal diversity along the eastern coast of South Africa. This work increased the known diversity of coastal algae in KwaZulu-Natal by over 30% and formed the basis for the publication of the KwaZulu-Natal Algae Guide.

The partnership also helped train marine researchers who continue to contribute to this field internationally. Although South Africa is known for its rich marine life, discoveries like this demonstrate that our oceans still hold unsolved mysteries. Sometimes understanding what lives beneath the waves begins with a closer look at what is already present.
