Simba Safari receives new species, including calves of antelope, llama, and tapir

Simba Safari, located in São Paulo, received new additions in September, including the tapir calf named Amendoim. This small animal, the offspring of Rosa and Paçoca, can already be seen walking alongside its mother in the park. Amendoim has fur marked with stripes and light spots, typical of the early life stage of tapirs, and is already exploring the enclosure with its mother.

Espaço Brasil

Amendoim and his mother reside in Espaço Brasil, a section dedicated to the native fauna of the area. This area also houses capybaras, giant anteaters, and emus. The visit allows visitors to observe the Brazilian tapir up close, a species classified by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) as vulnerable to extinction.

Additionally, Simba Safari incorporated two cervicapra calves and one aoudad, which share the same living space, allowing them to be observed interacting and playing.

New Species and Their Origins

The cervicapra, originating from India, is a type of antelope whose adult males have dark fur and long, spiraled horns. The aoudad, known as the Barbary sheep, comes from North Africa and demonstrates the ability to climb rocky surfaces and jump up to two meters high.

Another novelty is Juanito, a llama born in August. This species was domesticated millennia ago in the Andes and is found in countries such as Peru, Bolivia, and Chile.

Currently, the park maintains more than 300 animals belonging to 40 different species. Tours are conducted in adapted trucks, covering 4 kilometers, and include the presence of an environmental educator who shares interesting information about the animals during the route.

Promotions and Visit Information

It is possible to combine a visit to Amendoim at Simba Safari with tours at the São Paulo Zoo or the Botanical Garden, as both participate in the Children's Month campaign. During October 2026, children up to 12 years old are entitled to free entry if accompanied by a paying adult.

This offer is valid for both individually purchased advance tickets and a package that includes four attractions: São Paulo Zoo, Botanical Garden, Simba Safari, and Mundo Dino. Simba Safari is located at Av. do Cursino, 6338 – Entrada Cursino – Vila Santa Luzia. Operating hours are Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm (entry until 4 pm and tour until 6 pm), and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, from 8:30 am to 5 pm (visitation until 6 pm).
