Demand for seven-seater vehicles in the Indian market remains high, and the segment showed significant growth in September. The annual growth of the three-row passenger car market reached 26.7 percent. Mahindra Scorpio and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga dominate this segment as the two best-selling models.
According to the Auto Pandit report, Mahindra Scorpio sold 17,313 units, while Maruti Suzuki Ertiga sold 16,911 units. Furthermore, sales of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga this year increased by 39.6 percent compared to last year. However, one variant of this car showed an impressive surge in sales.
This refers to the Toyota Rumion, Toyota's most affordable seven-seater car. In September, the company sold 2,481 units, compared to only 829 units sold in September of last year, which represents a 199.3 percent year-on-year increase in sales for this model.
This vehicle is the cheapest seven-seater model from Toyota, with a starting price of 9.79 lakh rupees including tax in New Delhi. Although essentially a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota has made its own modifications, changing the car's design.
It is equipped with a 1.5-liter K-series engine that produces 101.64 hp and 136.8 Nm of torque. The claimed fuel consumption for the petrol version is 20.51 kilometers per liter, and for the CNG version, it is 26.11 kilometers per kilogram.
The petrol engine version is available with both manual and automatic transmissions, including a six-speed automatic transmission. Paddle shifters have also been installed in the car to improve performance. Regarding safety, the car is equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, and Hill Hold Assist.
Nevertheless, demand for the Toyota Innova in the seven-seater segment exceeds the demand for this model. Combined sales of the Toyota Innova and Hycross reached 8,008 units, making it the fifth best-selling car in this segment. However, compared to last year, sales of this model decreased by 18.1 percent.
