Eurasian Bank Issues Debut Dim Sum Bonds in Hong Kong

The Eurasian Bank (EDB) successfully placed its first Dim Sum bonds in the offshore Chinese market in Hong Kong, raising 630 million yuan. Investor demand exceeded the offered volume by more than 2.5 times, and the coupon rate was set at 3.9%.

The bank issued three-year unsecured senior bonds, which were registered on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. This placement was part of a new Medium-Term Note (MTN) program totaling US$3.5 billion.

The placement received an 'Ag' rating from China Chengxin (Asia Pacific) Credit Ratings Company Limited, based in Hong Kong. Global underwriters included China Galaxy International, China International Capital Corporation (CICC), and CITIC Securities, while joint arrangers were Fosun International Securities and Orient Securities (Hong Kong).

According to EDB, this deal attracted investors from Asia, as well as from the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. Conducting this transaction will allow the bank to diversify its funding sources and gain additional access to yuan liquidity, supplementing credit lines from Chinese banks.

The raised funds are intended to finance the construction of a cross-border checkpoint and railway line on the border between Kazakhstan and China, as well as to support other projects in Kazakhstan involving Chinese contractors, suppliers, investors, sponsors, or co-founders.

EDB Chairman of the Management Board Nikolay Podguzov called this first issuance an important milestone in strengthening the bank's position in Asian capital markets. He noted that the deal will expand the bank's investor base and provide an additional source of yuan financing for projects that promote economic ties between Eurasia and China, including projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Previously, in August 2026, CCXAP became the first Hong Kong agency to assign EDB a long-term credit rating of Ag with a stable outlook. The Chinese rating agency China Chengxin International (CCXI) upgraded the bank's global rating to Ag from A-g and confirmed its national rating of AAA.

According to information from EDB, by the end of June 2026, the bank's total portfolio included 348 projects with a total investment volume of US$22.1 billion. Key areas of activity include transport infrastructure, digital systems, green energy, agriculture, industry, and mechanical engineering.

Under the Strategy for the period 2022–2026, the bank is implementing three mega-projects: the Central Asia Water and Energy Resources Complex, the Eurasian Transport Network, and the Eurasian Commodity Distribution Network.
