Paris Motor Show opens with record participation from Chinese automakers

The 91st Paris Motor Show started in the French capital on Monday, noting a record number of participating Chinese automotive companies showcasing their newest models and technologies.

The week-long event brings together over one hundred exhibitors and more than sixty automakers. Twenty-five Chinese brands, represented by 16 companies, are participating, including BYD, XPeng, Changan, Dongfeng, and Leapmotor. This is approximately double the number seen at the 2024 event.

Serge Gachot, Director of the Paris Motor Show, noted that compared to two years ago, Chinese automakers are paying more attention to brand recognition and are actively seeking local partners, which indicates an increased interest in the French and European markets overall.

In addition to Chinese manufacturers, the show features European brands such as Audi, Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, and Volkswagen, which are also presenting new models and electrification technologies. Key themes this year include electric vehicles, intelligent driving, and innovative mobility solutions.

For the first time, the Paris Motor Show presented public demonstrations of autonomous driving. Visitors can learn about how these technologies work and test vehicles equipped with intelligent driving systems in real road conditions.

The test drive program has also been expanded, offering about 90 models from 20 automotive brands, including hybrid and fully electric vehicles. Over 5,000 test drives are planned throughout the event, allowing guests to assess the technical specifications and performance of the latest models.

The motor show, held every two years, occupies five exhibition pavilions, offering 70,000 square meters of indoor space and an additional 15,000 square meters of outdoor area this year.
