ICMR opens high-altitude research center in Kelong to study health risks in the Himalayas

The center established by ICMR is designed to strengthen the institutional base for researching health issues faced by residents of the Himalayan region, as well as personnel working in high-altitude areas.

The new research center, located in Himachal Pradesh, will study specific medical challenges associated with living and working in the mountains. Areas of research include soldiers' adaptation to thin air at extreme altitudes, as well as the impact of low oxygen levels and harsh winters on the health of Himalayan communities.

ICMR will combine its scientific expertise with the practical experience of AFMS, while AIIMS Bilaspur will conduct studies on the effects of high-altitude conditions on patients visiting this region.
