The Swedish car manufacturer Volvo has released its new flagship electric SUV model, the EX90, in the Indian market. This electric vehicle features excellent design, a luxurious interior, advanced technology, and a large driving range. The initial price of the EX90 is set at 1.26 crore rupees (excluding taxes). Official pre-orders are already open, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in January of next year.
The EX90 is presented as the flagship product in the company's electric portfolio. It is developed on the dedicated electric SPA2 platform and is considered an electric alternative to the gasoline and diesel versions of the Volvo XC90. In the Indian market, it occupies a higher position compared to the Volvo EX30 and EC40 models.
The design of the Volvo EX90 adheres to the signature Scandinavian style, which combines simplicity and premium quality. The front of the vehicle is distinguished by 'Thor's Hammer' designed LED headlights, a characteristic feature of Volvo vehicles. Furthermore, the SUV features a closed grille, flush-opening door handles integrated into the body, and C-shaped rear LED lights.
Globally, the Volvo EX90 is available with various powertrains. However, for India, it is offered with a 106 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. This configuration provides a maximum power output of 462 hp and a torque of 670 Nm. In India, this electric SUV will be offered in one fully equipped variant, which includes the all-wheel-drive system powering all four wheels.
Volvo states that according to the WLTP testing cycle, the EX90 can travel up to 625 km on a single full charge. Based on tests conducted under Indian driving conditions, the company claims a range of up to 724 km. It should be noted that the actual mileage may vary depending on road conditions, weather, traffic, and driving style. Thus, on a single charge, this SUV can cover the distance from Delhi to Prayagraj (approximately 650 km).
Charging support includes 11 kW AC. Using this charger, the battery can charge from 0 to 100 percent in approximately 11 hours. Additionally, the SUV supports ultra-fast DC charging up to 350 kW. According to the company, this allows the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes.
The interior of the Volvo EX90 is equipped with a 14.5-inch vertical touchscreen that integrates Google functions. The vehicle also features a fully digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, and a premium audio system. The SUV supports Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates with 5G capability, allowing software and certain vehicle functions to be updated without visiting a service center. The digital system utilizes NVIDIA computing hardware and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit platform.
