Uzbek film 'Vata' wins top prize at 'Eurasian Bridge' film festival

The Uzbek film 'Vata', directed by Rashid Malikov, has won the main prize for feature films at the X International 'Eurasian Bridge' Film Festival. This anniversary festival was held in Moscow for the first time and attracted participants from fourteen different countries.

The film 'Vata' tells the story of a woman who faces a number of life difficulties and strives to find new meaning in existence. Maria Borodyanskaya, a member of the jury, emphasized that the film addresses several significant social issues that can be understood by viewers from different cultures. In her opinion, the award received will help the film reach a wider audience.

How the winners were determined

The international jury, which evaluated the feature films, was formed under the leadership of Uzbek director and screenwriter Yusup Razikov. The jury also included Chinese director Lam Canzhao and Russian producer and screenwriter Maria Borodyanskaya.

Among other laureates, the Vietnamese film 'Kinh Nam Restaurant' by director Leon Lee received a special mention from the jury. The award for best directing was given to Vladimir Zakarenko for the historical drama 'On the Edge of Childhood', which tells the story of children forced to grow up early during the Great Patriotic War.

The best documentary of the festival was recognized as the Russian film 'Angelic Rank' by Yulia Bobkova, dedicated to the Novodevichy Convent. Special attention was also paid to the Turkish film 'Post-truth' by Alkan Avcioglu, which was created entirely using artificial intelligence technologies.

The festival took place from October 5 to 9 at seven locations in Moscow, where 28 films were shown to the audience. After the screenings in the capital, 'Eurasian Bridge' will continue its event in Crimea in the format of 'Festival Echo'. The International Film Festival has been held since 2016 with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia. It is worth noting that previously the film 'Vata' had received an award for best screenplay at a film festival in Sochi.
