NTPC invites companies to apply for investment of 26% equity in cogeneration projects

NTPC Ltd, an electricity producer, has announced a call for expressions of interest (EoI) from Commercial and Industrial (C&I) organizations willing to invest 26 percent of the equity capital in cogeneration projects.

The goal of this initiative is to explore opportunities for creating cogeneration facilities that can meet industrial needs for steam energy and electricity, as well as integrated energy supply solutions based on coal, renewable energy sources, and battery energy storage systems.

The company noted that as industries increasingly focus on ensuring energy security, optimizing costs, and sustainable development, cogeneration offers an opportunity to enhance overall energy efficiency by producing steam and electricity through a single system.

A cogeneration project simultaneously generates electricity and useful thermal energy, in the form of steam or heat, using a single fuel source. The proposed initiative aims to address diverse industrial needs with reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solutions through long-term supply agreements.

NTPC emphasized that this initiative reflects the company's commitment to expanding its portfolio of energy solutions and strengthening partnerships with industrial enterprises. By leveraging its experience in power generation and exploring innovative energy supply models, NTPC intends to support industrial growth while contributing to achieving goals in energy efficiency, sustainability, and the energy transition.

This public sector undertaking is India's largest integrated power company, with an installed capacity of over 91 gigawatts (GW), plus an additional 35 GW under construction. The company has set a target of reaching a total capacity of 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources.

This target involves a balanced mix of thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants, ensuring the supply of reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to the country. In addition to power generation, NTPC has ventured into new business areas, including e-mobility, energy storage, waste-to-energy conversion, nuclear energy, and green hydrogen solutions.
