Although the home floor is regularly cleaned and bathroom tiles are washed with water, many notice that after some time, thin lines between the tiles begin to darken. Even if the floor looks shiny, these black stripes can give the impression of a dirty house. People often try to clean them using mops, buying expensive cleaning products, and working hard, but they do not achieve the desired result.
In fact, the color change occurs due to the accumulation of moisture, soap residues, dust, dirt, and mold in the areas filled with grout between the tiles. This problem is especially noticeable in bathrooms, kitchens, and other places where water frequently gets. However, this problem can be significantly reduced by using the correct cleaning methods and making some small changes to habits.
There are several reasons why the lines between tiles become black. Firstly, constant moisture: if water remains in the grout of a bathroom or kitchen, dirt begins to accumulate there. With prolonged moisture, mold can develop, leading to the darkening of the grout.
Secondly, the settling of a layer of soap and shampoo: during bathing, a fatty layer of soap and shampoo settles between the tiles. Over time, dust and dirt accumulate on it, causing even white grout to look black.
Thirdly, the accumulation of dust and grease: in the kitchen, oil splashes, and on the floor, dust get stuck between the tiles. If regular cleaning is not performed, this dirt accumulates, and the grout lines darken.
Additionally, mold can develop: mold can grow in areas with low ventilation and high humidity. Black spots visible in the corners of the bathroom, near the shower, and by the sink can be caused by this. If spots reappear, the humidity level should be checked.
Another reason is old or damaged grout: over time, the grout can wear out or crack. In such cases, dirt penetrates deep inside and cannot be removed with ordinary cleaning. If the grout is destroyed or there is a water leak, it must be repaired.
To start, you should remove dry dirt: before starting the cleaning, dust and hair should be removed with a broom or vacuum cleaner. This will prevent dirt from getting into the grout during wet cleaning.
Use mild cleaning agents: for removing regular dirt, water with a small amount of soap or a special tile cleaning composition is suitable. Before using, test the agent on a small area, then clean with a brush and rinse with water.
Brush correctly: to remove dirt between tiles, it is recommended to use a grout cleaning brush or a soft toothbrush. It should be avoided to use overly harsh brushes, as this can damage the grout.
Eliminate mold and moisture: if the black film is caused by mold, use a cleaning agent suitable for tile joints. It is necessary to maintain air circulation in the bathroom and prevent water accumulation. If mold appears constantly, the walls should be checked for dampness or water leaks.
Important warning: never mix bleach with vinegar, acids, toilet cleaners, or ammonia, as this can release toxic gases. When cleaning, wear gloves and ensure ventilation in the room.
By following these tips, the lines between the tiles should not turn black.
