The Fergana Region and the Japanese city of Maizuru have reached an agreement to expand interregional cooperation in the fields of tourism, culture, sports, and investment.
Discussions on these issues took place during a working trip to Japan by a regional delegation headed by the Deputy Governor of the Fergana Region, Khurshidjon Akhmedov. The delegation also included the governor of the Rishtanov District, Bahodir Holikov.
In Maizuru, representatives from the region met with Mayor Komoda Akitsu and Chairman of the City Council, Ryuji Kimotsuki. The parties discussed methods for more effective utilization of the potential of both districts, experience exchange, and the implementation of joint projects. Previously, Maizuru and the Rishtanov District already held the status of partner cities.
Participants expressed readiness to develop existing ties and expand cooperation into new areas. One of the agreements reached was the holding of 'Maizuru Days' events in the Rishtanov District and 'Fergana Days' in the Japanese city.
During the visit, the delegation visited the Red Brick Museum, established by the municipal administration of Maizuru, as well as the City Memory Museum. Representatives of the Fergana Region familiarized themselves with the city's history, its cultural heritage, and exhibitions related to World War II.
The delegation also participated in the 'Memory and Peace' event and paid tribute to the victims of the war. Furthermore, the parties agreed to establish cooperation between the museums of the Fergana Region and Maizuru. The goal of the visit is to strengthen friendly ties between the Fergana Region and the Japanese city, as well as to develop joint initiatives in the fields of culture, tourism, and other areas.
