Huawei's HarmonyOS Interconnect app is available on Apple Watch and works with Mate 90 phones for the first time

Huawei's HarmonyOS Interconnect app can now be installed on Apple Watch. It allows smartwatches to connect with Huawei phones for message transfer and device finding assistance. To use the app on the watch, watchOS version 10.0 or newer is required, and the Huawei phone must have HarmonyOS version 7.0.0.109 or higher installed.

Currently, connectivity is only available for three Huawei phone series: Pura X View, Mate 90, and Mate XT 2. Huawei announced on its official support website that other models will gradually receive this feature.

The setup process is carried out via the watch. Users need to download HarmonyOS Interconnect from the App Store onto the Apple Watch, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both devices, that they are connected to the internet, unlocked, and nearby. Then, the app must be opened on the watch to display a QR code, which is subsequently scanned by the Huawei phone authorized via Huawei ID. After connection, notifications can be exchanged between the devices, and each device can help locate the other.

In the App Store, this application is listed under the developer Thunder Software Technology and also functions on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. On these devices, it supports seamless file transfer from Huawei devices to HarmonyOS versions 6.0.0.112 or later without using mobile internet. Furthermore, files from devices registered under the same Huawei ID can be received without requiring confirmation.

Version 2.0.0, released after the Huawei event on October 1st for the Mate 90 series and other products, added a two-way connection mode, allowing an Apple device to pair with a Huawei phone for messaging, device finding, and network sharing. This feature was initially launched on the Pura X View, Mate 90 series, and Mate XT 2.

Previously, at the Huawei event on September 7th, the company announced support for Apple Watch and AirPods for the Mate XT 2. In the case of AirPods, Huawei plans to display the headphone charge level on the left panel of the Huawei phone's main screen.

The release for Apple Watch is the first concrete step in the plan for cross-ecosystem interaction. It solves a practical problem for users who own both a Huawei phone and an Apple Watch, as Apple's native software does not support such pairing. Huawei has not yet provided timelines for adding additional phone models.
