Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 teaser revealed: new budget cruiser model expected

Harley-Davidson is preparing to strengthen its lineup of most affordable motorcycles in the Indian market. The company previously confirmed its intention to launch a new cruiser model named 'Sprint 440'. This model will be developed based on the X440 platform, in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. Recently, the company published the first teaser of this motorcycle, which showcased its appearance.

The teaser shows that the design of the Sprint 440 significantly differs from the X440 and is executed in a more traditional cruiser style. The motorcycle features a round headlight on the front, above which there is a small plastic cowl. It is anticipated that the wiring and cables will be hidden to maintain a clean look on the front end.

When configured, the front wheel of the Sprint 440 appears larger than the rear wheel. This configuration is intended to give the motorcycle a classic cruiser look and also help lower the seat height. While the seat height of the X440 is 805 mm, it is expected that the Sprint 440 will have a smaller one. To achieve a lower seat height, the company may make significant changes to the subframe compared to the X440, although the front part of the frame remains similar to the X440.

The fuel tank design of the Sprint 440 also differs significantly from the X440. It has a more rounded and classic shape, reminiscent of large Harley-Davidson cruisers such as the Street Bob and Low Rider. Behind the tank, there is a single-piece seat with a cutout, which will provide enough space for both the rider and the passenger. The riding posture on the motorcycle will also differ from the X440.

The teaser shows a handlebar with a conical profile and backward tilt, which should provide the rider with a more relaxed and comfortable seating position. Pedal details are not yet clear, but they may be positioned in a mid or slightly forward position.

The Sprint 440 will be equipped with an upside-down USD front fork and dual rear shock absorbers. However, instead of directly using the X440's suspension, the company may change its configuration or use separate units specifically designed for the Sprint 440. The rear shocks in the teaser appear more inclined than those on the X440.

A display with a different design may appear in front of the rider on the Sprint 440. Additionally, changes are observed in the right switchgear block. While the X440 uses a small rectangular TFT display inside a round housing, the Sprint 440 is expected to have a more traditional and better integrated instrument cluster.

The most common element between the Sprint 440 and X440 is the engine. Both motorcycles are expected to be equipped with a 440cc single-cylinder air and oil-cooled engine, along with a six-speed gearbox. This engine is capable of generating 27 hp and 38 Nm of torque. It is predicted that the power and torque figures of the Sprint 440 will be within this range, although the company may adjust the engine tuning to suit the cruiser nature of the motorcycle.

Although it is difficult to name the exact price before launch, the cost of the Sprint 440 is expected to exceed the price of the X440, which starts from 2.75 lakh rupees. Currently, the company has only provided preliminary information through the teaser. It is evident that even using the 440cc unit from the X440 platform, the Sprint 440 will have significant differences in design, riding posture, subframe, suspension system, and other elements.

Royal Enfield raises prices for Classic 350 model before holiday season

Before the start of the holiday season, Royal Enfield announced a price increase for its popular Classic 350 model. The company updated the cost of all nine color variants of the motorcycle, which came as a surprise to potential buyers.

Following this price hike, customers will have to pay an additional 1000 to 2000 rupees depending on the chosen variant. The starting price of the motorcycle is now 1.89 lakh rupees.

The base version of the Classic 350 in Redich Red now costs 1.89 lakh rupees (excluding taxes). The Madras Red model is priced at 1.96 lakh rupees, and the Medallion Bronze variant is 2.01 lakh rupees. Furthermore, models in Commando Sand and Gorakha Green start from 2.12 lakh rupees.

Prices for the Gun Grey and Stealth Black variants reached 2.21 lakh rupees. The Signature White model, recently introduced with the top-spec Emerald, now costs 2.26 lakh rupees. It should be noted that all listed prices are exclusive of taxes.

Despite the price increase, Royal Enfield has made no changes to the engine or mechanical structure of the Classic 350. The motorcycle is still equipped with a 349 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, which generates 20.2 hp and 27 Nm of torque. This engine is connected to a five-speed gearbox.

Earlier in August, the company released the Gorakha Edition Classic 350, which started at a price of 2.11 lakh rupees; its cost has now risen to 2.12 lakh rupees. Similarly, the price of the Signature White increased by 2000 rupees, matching the price of the Emerald variant.

At the beginning of this year, Royal Enfield updated the Classic 350 by including a USB Type-C charging port along with an assistant and slipper clutch in all variants with dual-channel ABS. However, the base Redich Red model with single-channel ABS still uses the standard clutch and the old charging port.

Overall, the new prices have made the Classic 350 slightly more expensive, but the main mechanical components, including the engine and transmission, remain unchanged.
