Premier League on Sunday: Henderson scored a brace for Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal survived dramatic matches

Several intense matches took place in the Premier League last Saturday. Tottenham managed to draw 1-1 with Manchester United thanks to a goal from Dominic Solanke. Meanwhile, Arsenal managed to regain momentum by defeating Leeds 2-1 despite initial difficulties.

Match Review

In the fixture dubbed "El Sackico" due to the close attention on both managers, Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for United in the 73rd minute at Old Trafford. He capitalized on Tottenham's careless play and scored from a sharp angle after a pass from Matheus Cunha into the penalty area. The situation for Tottenham seemed hopeless when Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for a header challenge against United defender Luke Shaw five minutes after the United goal. However, Solanke saved the team in the final minutes, beating United defender Lisandro Martínez and directing the ball into the net from a Sandro Tonali cross. This match became a dramatic finale of not the brightest game, which corresponds to the problems faced by both teams at the bottom of the table.

Tottenham is in third place at the bottom of the league table and remains winless after losses in three of the first six matches. United is in 12th place, having only one win this season. Roberto De Zerbi managed to save Tottenham from relegation on the last day of last season after taking charge late in the campaign. Despite the club spending over £300 million ($429 million) on new players in the transfer window, their players look no better this season. United acted more conservatively in the transfer market, aiming to build on an impressive third season last year. However, this decision seems to have backfired, as Michael Carrick is struggling to get the best results from an inconsistent squad.

After a shocking 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the three-week international break, Arsenal was in danger of a second consecutive loss when they conceded a goal at the Emirates Stadium. James Justin opened the scoring for Leeds in the 55th minute after Arsenal failed to cope with a Gabriel Gudmundsson cross. But Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori found a solution to the problem, converting Ben White's header from close range in the 62nd minute. Arsenal showed the depth of its squad when substitute Bruno Guimarães scored the winning goal from the flank six minutes after coming on. Guimarães's first goal at the Emirates since his move from Newcastle gave Arsenal its fifth win in six league matches. The North London club is in second place, trailing Manchester City, who are experiencing a crisis, on goal difference.

Manchester City will travel to Liverpool on Sunday to play its first match after being found guilty of more than 100 financial rule violations in the Premier League. In the match at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea started aggressively, leading to a 5-1 thrashing of Bournemouth, and the Blues managed to win for the first time in four league matches.

Jordan Henderson provided an ideal start for Xabi Alonso's team by scoring a curling shot after only 68 seconds, which was his first goal for Chelsea. The Blues continued their attack in the third minute when Morgan Rogers' shot deflected into the net off Bournemouth defender Antonio Silva. A minute after halftime, Chelsea was again in the scoring zone thanks to Joao Pedro's precise finish following a pass from Pedro Neto. Evanilson scored one goal for Bournemouth in the 51st minute, deflecting a poor clearance by Moisés Caicedo, extending Chelsea's clean sheet streak to 22 matches.

However, Joao Pedro ultimately decided the outcome of the match by scoring near the goal in the 67th minute, making his fifth goal of the season. English midfielder Henderson, aged 36, scored the second goal in the 70th minute with a powerful free-kick, bringing Chelsea's total to 23 goals in just eight matches across all competitions this season. Alonso noted: 'We signed him for everything, and if he is capable of scoring two wonderful goals like today, we are very happy for him.'

Aston Villa's difficult start to the season continued with a disappointing home draw of 2-2 against fourth-placed Brentford. Ipswich beat Fulham, who had no wins, 2-1 at Portman Road, while tenth-placed Brighton won 2-0 against Sunderland, strengthening their position in third place.
