The MAHAK Pediatric Center for the treatment and research of childhood cancer (MPCTRC) celebrated National Children's Day by organizing a series of cultural, artistic, and entertainment events. These activities were aimed at providing children undergoing cancer treatment, as well as their families, with opportunities for play, social interaction, and joyful experiences alongside the treatment process.
The program was designed taking into account the medical condition of the children and complied with healthcare and hospital safety requirements. Through music, cultural and artistic activities, and age-appropriate entertainment, the event created an atmosphere distinct from the routine of medical treatment, allowing children to participate in activities suitable for their age and circumstances.
Prolonged stay in a medical environment and undergoing long-term treatment can negatively affect certain aspects of childhood. Therefore, providing opportunities for play, social interaction, and recreation helps children continue to experience parts of childhood as appropriate to their individual condition, even while receiving therapy.
At MAHAK, attention to the emotional and social needs of children is considered alongside their medical needs. Opportunities for play, socializing with others, and participating in events that celebrate childhood, while considering their personal circumstances, are part of supporting the quality of life for children throughout the entire treatment process.
The celebration of National Children's Day reflected this approach, bringing moments of festivity and interaction into the hospital environment. It gave children and their families a chance to temporarily distract themselves from the treatment routine and participate in events focused on childhood and participation.
In addition to providing specialized pediatric cancer treatment, MAHAK supports children and their families by addressing various aspects of their well-being throughout the treatment journey. This approach encompasses not only medical care but also attention to the psychological, social, and emotional needs of children and their families.
The celebration of National Children's Day at MAHAK was conducted as part of this broader supportive approach, affirming the importance of preserving opportunities for childhood, joy, and connection while children continue their fight against cancer.
