Amazon and Flipkart mark strong start to 2026 seasonal sales in India

The two largest e-commerce platforms in India, Amazon India and Flipkart, have launched their annual major seasonal sales: Amazon Great Indian Festival (GIF) 2026 and The Big Billion Days (TBBD) 2026. Both companies reported high levels of consumer participation, a sharp increase in demand across various product categories, and increased use of fast delivery options in regions outside major metropolitan areas.

Amazon reported that over 440 million visits were registered during the initial phase of its sale, marking the highest figure in the platform's history. There was a 100% growth in orders compared to the previous year, and daily app downloads increased fivefold. Over 72% of all visitors came from regions outside the nine largest cities. The number of first-time buyers almost doubled year-on-year, and orders were received from every postal code in the country.

Meanwhile, Flipkart recorded 6.3 million concurrent users during peak load, attracting more than six times the active users compared to an ordinary hour. The platform also noted 287 million sessions registered during the early access period for Plus, Black program members, and co-cardholders.

Non-metro markets accounted for about 60% of the total activity volume, with tier three cities and below contributing nearly half of all visits in the first hour. During the same period, the number of new customers grew by 34%. Amazon highlighted exceptional momentum in the electronics and premium upgrades segments. Sales of premium Android smartphones grew by 70% compared to last year, while MacBook Neo sales increased 65 times compared to a normal workday. Large home appliances showed a 50-fold increase, led by washing machines (80 times), refrigerators (60 times), and home entertainment systems (77 times).

In the fashion sector, shoe sales speed reached seven pairs per second, and Nike sales grew 16 times compared to normal days. Denim clothing sales exceeded 1500 pairs per hour, and premium cosmetics sold at a rate of 150 units per minute.

Flipkart reported high demand for large home appliances, which grew by 30% year-on-year in the first hour, as well as a 73% rise in tablet sales. Overall cosmetic sales on Flipkart increased by 42%, and among Gen Z buyers, by 48%, driven by the growth in men's grooming. During peak hours, Flipkart processed over 1600 units of men's fragrances per minute. Regarding engagement, over 12.7 million users utilized Flipkart's live commerce and video shopping features, with 64% of voice search users coming from tier two markets and above.

Fast order fulfillment became a key area of competition on both platforms. Amazon stated that it fulfills orders within minutes in over 120 cities served by Amazon Now. Flipkart Minutes service showed a 3.5-fold increase in order volumes compared to normal days, and the number of new customers increased elevenfold in the first hour. A record delivery example was the handover of an iPhone 17 to a customer in New Delhi in just 3.4 minutes.

The conversion of high-value purchases was stimulated by accessibility options. Half of Amazon's buyers utilized installment options (EMI), transactions via Amazon Pay Later doubled, and the user base grew by 80% year-on-year. Similarly, Flipkart reported that one in three mobile device buyers chose interest-free installments, and one in four used exchange offers.

Seller participation expanded on both platforms. Amazon reported that sellers listed more than twice the quantity of goods in the first 24 hours compared to last year, with sellers earning over 1 crore rupees in sales, exceeding growth by more than 80%. Growth categories for sellers were led by cosmetics (7 times), kitchenware (4.2 times), and wireless devices (3.4 times).

Some key partner brands demonstrated a significant surge, such as Philips (10 times higher than the baseline), Reebok (doubling sales year-on-year), WROGN (10 times higher than the baseline), and Penguin Random House India (nearly 50% growth year-on-year).

Flipkart noted that 51% of transacting sellers doubled their standard daily activity during the early access period. Sellers based in tier two markets and above, such as small businesses and SMEs, achieved a 2.9-fold growth, with manufacturing and trade centers, including Bhiwandi, Panipat, Tirupur, and Hisar, leading the sales momentum.

Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026 starts tonight with discounts on iPhone 16 and other products

Amazon has announced the start of its largest festive season sale, Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026, which begins at midnight tonight for all shoppers. The company claims that millions of products can be purchased at the lowest prices of the year during this promotion. Additionally, Prime members will receive extra benefits.

This year, Amazon is focusing not only on price reductions but also on improving logistics, implementing artificial intelligence features for shopping, and expanding its delivery network to smaller towns. Thus, competition during the Diwali shopping season will be based not only on price but also on the speed of product delivery to the customer.

The biggest surprise is the iPhone 16

The most interesting offer in this sale is the iPhone 16. According to Amazon, some customers in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad will receive the iPhone 16 within minutes via Amazon Now at the lowest price of the year, starting October 8th.

The iPhone 16 model with 128GB storage is listed for ₹74,999. It is equipped with Apple's A18 chip, a 48MP Fusion camera, and Apple Intelligence features. This offer is particularly valuable because typically flagship phone delivery takes at least one day, but now Amazon combines this purchase with minute-delivery in certain cities.

Big discounts on phones from Samsung to OnePlus

If the iPhone is not suitable for the buyer, the Amazon sale also features significant offers on Android phones. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 5G is available for ₹84,999 and comes with a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a 200MP camera, Galaxy AI, and a 5000mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G is also available for ₹31,999, and the OnePlus Nord CE6 8GB+128GB is offered for ₹33,999.

Amazon states that it is offering the lowest prices on smartphones and other electronics this year. Furthermore, an instant 10% discount is provided when paying with an SBI card, and No-Cost EMI options and exchange programs are also available.

Offers not only on phones, but also on MacBooks and TVs

The assortment also includes the Apple MacBook Neo 13-inch, priced at ₹68,990. The Apple Watch Series 11 costs ₹35,999, Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones are available for ₹34,920, and JBL Vibe Beam 2 TWS earbuds are sold for ₹2,799.

For TV lovers, there is a 55-inch QD-Mini LED 4K TV from TCL priced at ₹59,990, and a boAt 30,000 mAh power bank costs the buyer ₹3,199. Amazon claims that discounts on top electronics, laptops, tablets, and home appliances can reach up to 80%. Discounts of up to 80% are advertised in fashion and beauty categories, up to 75% for home goods and furniture, and up to 70% for books, kitchenware, and other items.

Additional benefits for Prime members

The sale may be even more attractive for Amazon Prime subscribers. According to the company, Prime customers can save an additional up to 5% on a large number of products and receive cashback up to ₹250 on millions of products. Prime customers using the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card also receive unlimited 5% cashback on Amazon. For customers who are not Prime members, this cashback is 3%. Additionally, an instant 10% discount is available when using SBI credit and debit cards with EMI. However, the terms of bank offers and the maximum discount amount may vary depending on the product.

Amazon has also integrated artificial intelligence into the purchasing process. The Rufus assistant now helps find products, compare two products, view price history, and receive notifications when a desired price is reached. It is important to note that Rufus can understand Hinglish, allowing buyers to ask questions in simple language, such as, 'What is a good phone under 25,000 rupees?'

The company emphasizes that through Rufus, buyers can track how a product's price has changed over a certain period, simplifying the comparison of the current price with previous values instead of relying solely on the discount.

Products delivered in minutes via Amazon Now

Another major initiative by Amazon is the increase in delivery speed. The Amazon Now service now covers over 120 cities, where products such as groceries, beauty items, home goods, mobile accessories, and daily necessities can be delivered in just a few minutes.

For budget-conscious buyers, there is also Amazon Bazaar, which offers up to 70% off on home, kitchen, beauty, and fashion items. Here you can find items such as a T-shirt for ₹299, a saree for ₹329, and a bedsheet for ₹479.

Furthermore, Amazon Launchpad features products from Indian startups and new brands, while Amazon Karigar and Saheli include products from Indian artisans and women entrepreneurs in the sale.

Numerous offers for the home

Considering that people buy not only phones and TVs during Diwali, the company has prepared major offers on home appliances and kitchenware. The Samsung 653-liter refrigerator is listed at ₹79,990, the ECOVACS robot vacuum cleaner is priced at ₹44,999, and the Hero Destini 125 scooter is available for ₹79,119. In the smart home category, you can find the Echo Dot 5th Gen for ₹4,499 and the Fire TV Stick HD for ₹2,999.

Before making a purchase during the major sale, it is recommended not to make a decision solely based on the discount. Amazon has added the Price History feature in Rufus so that users can view the product's price history and avoid impulse purchases.

E-commerce platform Flipkart has doubled its active seller base in 15 months

The active seller base on the e-commerce platform Flipkart has nearly doubled over the last fifteen months, according to Sakait Chaudhari, Senior Vice President and Head of Softlines, Grocery, and Marketplace.

Currently, there are about 1.4 million sellers registered on the marketplace. The growth in the number of sellers was 62 percentage points year-over-year (YoY).

The company attributes this growth to several factors: a zero-commission model, a simplified registration process, and AI-powered tools that help sellers improve assortment, pricing, and catalogs.

Chaudhari noted that over the past year, the company consciously invested in easing the onboarding and development process for sellers on Flipkart. He emphasized that work was done across multiple levers to reduce business barriers, including zero commission, AI-powered seller dashboards providing data on assortment, pricing, and demand, as well as automated real-time seller registration and support.

Among the states, Gujarat is one of the fastest-growing markets for new sellers. Strong growth is also observed in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura. Surat has become the second-largest center for attracting new sellers in the country after New Delhi, where new sellers increased by more than 70 percent.

The company reported that the zero-commission model, introduced in November 2025 and subsequently expanded to the entire fashion category, reduced selling costs on the platform. Specifically, Flipkart recently extended zero commission to all fashion items sold on its marketplace and removed the price cap of ₹1,000.

According to Chaudhari, thanks to the zero commission, a larger number of sellers utilize this benefit and pass it on to buyers, or reinvest the funds into expanding product lines or categories. This has made Flipkart a more active marketplace, where more businesses and products find customers across India.

Furthermore, Flipkart has invested in AI-enabled seller dashboards that automatically provide information on trending colors, styles, price ranges, and regional demand. This allows sellers to shape their assortment based on consumer demand. Chaudhari added that this data helped them create a highly consumer-oriented assortment.

Flipkart has also simplified the seller registration process, allowing them to complete the procedure in about 10–20 minutes. The transactional assortment of the marketplace, which refers to unique stock keeping units (SKUs) sold by sellers, grew by 33 percentage points year-over-year. Customers are expected to see more than double the new assortment compared to the last Big Billion Days sale.

Before the festive season, Flipkart conducted five major events for sellers, attended by over 10,000 sellers who received support in cataloging, pricing, inventory, and advertising. Chaudhari stated that the company enters the festive season with high momentum but refrained from providing a specific sales growth forecast, noting that the overall momentum was very high and significant growth was achieved over the last 12 months.

Meanwhile, Amazon India announced that it added 300,000 sellers, bringing its marketplace base to over 2 million.
