Vayona Energy Unveils New 5 MW Wind Turbine Platform in Chennai

Vayona Energy, a leading fully integrated onshore wind energy company in India and South Asia, has introduced its next-generation wind turbine, the Vayona 5.0/193. This model is built on an entirely new five-megawatt (MW) onshore platform and was presented at the Windergy India 2026 event in Chennai on Friday.

The platform's development was conducted in close collaboration with the German company Aerovide GmbH. This partnership merges German engineering expertise and design with Vayona's deep understanding of the Indian operational environment, manufacturing capabilities, and service network.

The platform features a 193-meter rotor and is designed to maximize energy generation across India's diverse wind conditions, including low and ultra-low wind regimes. Furthermore, it is engineered for reliable operation in high-temperature environments. The platform reflects the company's clear objective: to create a world-class wind turbine designed for Indian sites and manufactured in India using local supply chains for core components.

This new product marks Vayona's entry into the 5 MW segment and expands the company's capacity to meet evolving project requirements. Through its collaboration with Aerovide, the platform combines increased energy capture area with engineering solutions tailored to the country's wind, climatic, and specific characteristics.

Executive Remarks

Prashant Jain, Executive Vice Chairman of Vayona Energy, emphasized that the next phase of wind energy growth in India will require technologies capable of unlocking new sites, improving project economics, and ensuring reliable operation in challenging conditions. He noted that the Vayona 5.0/193 embodies the company's aspiration to establish a global wind energy platform in India, leveraging German engineering alongside Vayona's enhanced manufacturing, design, and service capabilities. He stated this is a crucial step toward transforming India into a hub for advanced wind energy technology and production.

Prateesh Vinay, CEO of Vayona Energy, added that for clients, the true value of a turbine is determined by how effectively and reliably it generates energy throughout its lifespan. By developing the Vayona 5.0/193, the company is targeting precisely this goal. The 193-meter rotor, high-temperature resistant design, site-specific configuration, and maintenance-friendly architecture are intended to ensure stronger energy harvesting, stable operation, and competitive lifecycle economics. By combining German design expertise with Indian manufacturing and service capabilities, the company aims to provide a globally standardized turbine specifically tailored for India.

The platform is developed using wind turbines equipped with native digital twins. Integrated with Vayona's internal Remote Operations Center (ROC), this system is designed for continuous performance monitoring, early detection of emerging issues, and more predictive maintenance. This digital architecture aims to increase turbine availability, support timely on-site intervention, and protect performance throughout the asset's lifecycle.

The platform is suitable for a wide range of applications, including standalone wind projects, hybrid wind-solar projects, solutions for guaranteed and dispatchable renewable energy, as well as projects meeting the renewable energy needs of commercial and industrial consumers.

The introduction of this platform continues Vayona's achievements from its first year of operation, which included resuming production, securing new orders, and releasing the first blade. Adding the 5.0/193 model to the existing 3X platform represents a further step in the company's evolution, broadening its offerings to meet a wider spectrum of wind energy demands.
