VinFast plans to enter the electric scooter market after success with electric vehicles in India

Following successful sales of electric vehicles, VinFast is preparing to enter the electric two-wheeler transport market in India. Currently, VinFast ranks fourth among companies selling electric vehicles in the Indian market, having sold 2,964 electric cars in September.

In light of this, the company has decided to enter the two-wheeler segment and signed a corresponding letter of intent. As part of this agreement, VinFast has reached arrangements with more than 50 electric motorcycle dealer partners. The company plans to establish its distribution network across 15 states.

The signing of this agreement took place at the High Phong production complex located in Vietnam. Representatives of Indian dealers visited this complex. According to the terms of the deal, VinFast will jointly open over 50 electric two-wheeler showrooms in 34 Indian cities with its retail partners.

The primary target markets for these new showrooms include regions such as Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, as these areas show the highest demand. This agreement demonstrates VinFast's plans to penetrate the electric scooter market.

The company has decided to form a separate distribution network for two-wheelers, while it is already actively operating in the passenger electric vehicle sector. Cam Tu (Jasmine), VinFast's manager for international market operations, noted that India is one of the most significant markets in the company's global growth strategy. She emphasized that this agreement with Indian partners reflects the company's expectations and long-term commitment, expressing confidence in the scale and potential of the Indian market.

However, information regarding the specific electric scooter model to be introduced in the Indian market has not yet been disclosed. Regarding electric vehicles, the company currently sells three models in India: VF 6, VF 7, and MPV 7. Two of these models are electric SUVs, and one is an electric minivan, with each model targeting different consumer groups.

Tata Motors sold over 200 thousand vehicles in the quarter, electric vehicle share increased

Tata Motors demonstrated impressive results in the passenger vehicle segment for the past quarter. In the second half of the 2027 fiscal year, the company sold over 200 thousand vehicles. In total, 201,723 vehicles were sold in domestic and global markets during the period from July to September 2026.

Compared to the same period last year, Tata's sales increased by 40%. In the 2026 fiscal year, the company sold 144,397 vehicles during this same period. The growth in Tata's sales is due not only to the overall increase in volume but also to significant changes in the fuel type structure used in Tata Motors vehicles.

The company offers vehicles in four fuel types: electric, gasoline, diesel, and CNG. In the reporting quarter, the share of electric vehicles in Tata Motors' portfolio reached 23%, with 47,150 electric vehicles sold in the second quarter, representing a 90% increase compared to the 24,855 vehicles sold the previous year.

CNG accounts for 28% of sales. If electric vehicles (EVs) and CNG vehicles are combined, 51% of Tata Motors' entire portfolio is accounted for by these engine types. Thus, the main driving force behind Tata Motors' sales is no longer exclusively gasoline and diesel options, although they still account for 49% of the total sales volume.

Looking at the previous quarter, Tata Motors sold 196,674 vehicles in the domestic market, and exports amounted to 5,049 units. In September, the company delivered a total of 70,210 vehicles, of which 68,810 were sold in the domestic market. This was the first time that Tata's monthly sales exceeded the 70,000 mark.

Analyzing sales for the entire quarter, Tata sold 62,611 vehicles in the domestic market in July, reaching 65,253 units in August, and 68,810 units in September. Regarding EVs, Tata sold 15,217 electric cars in July, 16,549 in August, and 15,384 units in September.

The most popular model in Tata's portfolio is the Tata Punch. Although sales data for the Punch in September is unavailable, 21,313 units of this SUV were sold in July, and 21,320 units in August, indicating consistently high sales exceeding 20 thousand units. The second best-selling product for the company is the Tata Nexon.

Dessey brand e-SPRINTO prepares to launch new electric scooter in the Indian market

The Indian two-wheeler transport market is showing rapid growth in the electric vehicle segment. By September 2026, companies had sold over 1.5 million electric two-wheelers, and new players are entering this developing sector.

One such new participant is the company e-SPRINTO. This local company plans to introduce its first mass-market electric scooter in October. Previously, e-SPRINTO did not sell scooters directly to consumers; this release will be the first product intended for individual buyers and is being developed with family needs in mind.

The company states that this scooter will provide a range of 130 kilometers on a single charge. It is designed for daily use, combining the practicality of a daily commuter, performance, and electric efficiency.

The needs of Indian consumers were also taken into account during development. Although the brand announced a range of 130 kilometers, it has not specified the measurement methodology for this figure. Much of the information about the upcoming scooter remains confidential.

e-SPRINTO's existing portfolio includes both low-speed and high-speed scooters, but they are intended for the business-to-business segment and are unavailable to individual buyers. There are four models in the low-speed category and two in the high-speed category.

e-SPRINTO has not yet confirmed the launch date for the new scooter, nor has the name under which it will be released been announced. The company has shared only one photo showing that the scooter follows a traditional design.
