Mercedes Electric GLC receives high demand: over 650 units pre-ordered in 36 hours

Demand for electric vehicles in the Indian market is constantly growing as consumers increasingly prefer electric vehicles (EVs) over traditional gasoline and diesel cars. Consequently, automotive companies are actively working to expand their EV portfolios. In this context, German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is preparing to introduce its new electric SUV, the Electric GLC, to the Indian market, and this model has caused a sensation even before its official launch.

Mercedes-Benz officially started taking orders for the Electric GLC on October 5. The company notes that the model received an impressive customer response even before its market debut. In just 36 hours after the reservation started, over 650 units of this SUV were ordered.

The Electric GLC is planned for launch in the Indian market on November 4, 2026. A significant point is that its production will take place directly in India, which plays a key role in the company's local manufacturing strategy.

According to information from Mercedes-Benz India, interest from over 650 customers was recorded in just 36 hours after the registration for the Electric GLC opened. This initial response indicates the high demand for the Electric GLC.

Production of this SUV will take place at the company's plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. The GLC 400 4MATIC model will be manufactured locally in India, which will help keep the cost of the electric SUV at a minimum level.

The company emphasizes that the Electric GLC will be the first Mercedes-Benz SUV in India based on the next-generation electric vehicle architecture, making this model very significant for the company's electric portfolio in the Indian market.

For its entry into the Indian market, the GLC Electric will be equipped with a powerful powertrain. It is expected to have a 94 kWh battery connected to a dual-motor system and all-wheel drive. According to international specifications, this powertrain is capable of generating about 490 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque. According to the company's statements, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

The main feature of the Electric GLC is its driving range. According to the WLTP cycle, this SUV can cover a distance of up to 715 km on a single full charge, making it highly useful for long journeys. Furthermore, the GLC Electric supports fast DC charging up to 330 kW. The company reports that in 10 minutes of fast charging, the battery gains enough energy for a range of about 300 km.

At present, it is difficult to state the exact price before the official launch. However, its cost is expected to be around 85 lakh rupees excluding taxes. Exact prices will be announced during the launch on November 4, and the first deliveries are expected by mid-November.

VinFast plans to enter the electric scooter market after success with electric vehicles in India

Following successful sales of electric vehicles, VinFast is preparing to enter the electric two-wheeler transport market in India. Currently, VinFast ranks fourth among companies selling electric vehicles in the Indian market, having sold 2,964 electric cars in September.

In light of this, the company has decided to enter the two-wheeler segment and signed a corresponding letter of intent. As part of this agreement, VinFast has reached arrangements with more than 50 electric motorcycle dealer partners. The company plans to establish its distribution network across 15 states.

The signing of this agreement took place at the High Phong production complex located in Vietnam. Representatives of Indian dealers visited this complex. According to the terms of the deal, VinFast will jointly open over 50 electric two-wheeler showrooms in 34 Indian cities with its retail partners.

The primary target markets for these new showrooms include regions such as Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, as these areas show the highest demand. This agreement demonstrates VinFast's plans to penetrate the electric scooter market.

The company has decided to form a separate distribution network for two-wheelers, while it is already actively operating in the passenger electric vehicle sector. Cam Tu (Jasmine), VinFast's manager for international market operations, noted that India is one of the most significant markets in the company's global growth strategy. She emphasized that this agreement with Indian partners reflects the company's expectations and long-term commitment, expressing confidence in the scale and potential of the Indian market.

However, information regarding the specific electric scooter model to be introduced in the Indian market has not yet been disclosed. Regarding electric vehicles, the company currently sells three models in India: VF 6, VF 7, and MPV 7. Two of these models are electric SUVs, and one is an electric minivan, with each model targeting different consumer groups.

Jaguar unveils electric car Type-01 with 720 km range and fast charging

Jaguar has introduced its new electric vehicle, the Type-01. This British brand previously released the Type-00 model in 2024, and the Type-01 is significantly more inspired by that previous model. The car is developed based on Jaguar's electric architecture.

The Type-01 distinguishes itself from other company models with its design and is aimed at the luxury market. It is capable of developing over 1000 horsepower and has a claimed range of up to 720 kilometers. The interior accommodates four passengers.

The car is equipped with powerful hardware, including a three-motor configuration: two are located at the rear, and one is at the front. This system provides 1030 hp and a torque of up to 1365 Nm. The total weight of the car is about 2.7 tons, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.2 seconds.

The Type-01 is fitted with a 120 kWh battery, which provides the claimed WLTP range of 720 kilometers. Furthermore, by charging the car for only 13 minutes, a distance of 321 kilometers can be covered. Additionally, charging from 10% to 80% takes only 22 minutes.

The car's interior is divided into four zones, and the dashboard uses a pattern mimicking a hood. There are no physical buttons; climate control and other functions are managed via a central touchscreen located so as not to inconvenience the driver.

The car features a 24-inch OLED display. Jaguar is facing declining sales, and it needs to present new designs to attract new consumers. Currently, the company has not announced prices for the Type-01. Although the price will not equal that of a Rolls-Royce, it will exceed the cost of the brand's flagship vehicle.

Deliveries of the Jaguar Type-01 are expected to begin in mid-2027. The car is also planned for release in India, where its cost may be around 2 crore rupees.

Chevrolet Captiva EV Premier stands out for its design and interior space

The electric mid-size SUV, Chevrolet Captiva EV Premier, which was initially imported from China and began being produced in Horizonte (CE) since last June from partially disassembled kits (SKD), attracts attention due to its style. Its look features a bold front design, a black roof with an electric opening, striking 18-inch wheels, and a more sober rear, characteristics that distinguish it from the brand's standard in Brazil, being largely influenced by models from its former German subsidiary Opel.

The wheelbase ensures comfort for five adult passengers. The vehicle dimensions are: length of 4,745 mm, wheelbase of 2,800 mm, width of 1,890 mm (2,140 mm with mirrors), height of 1,670 mm. It has a trunk volume of 403 liters, a mass of 1,800 kg, a 60 kWh battery, an engine with 201 hp and 31.6 kgfm of torque. With front-wheel drive, its acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 9.9 seconds, and the average range certified by Inmetro is 304 km.

Internally, the vehicle adopts a style characteristic of China, starting with the steering wheel, which seeks innovation, although it may seem somewhat unusual. Conversely, the materials used in the finish are of good quality, the front seats offer adequate firmness, and the rearview mirror control remains on the door handle, without following the trend of moving it to the steering wheel. The 15.6-inch multimedia screen has excellent resolution, but connection to mobile phones is done exclusively via cable, and the two USB-C ports require some maneuvering to be accessed; the car also has inductive charging.

The legroom in the back seat is considered very good. Although the trunk volume is not the most impressive among competitors and it has a temporary spare tire, it lacks a cargo cover. The auto-hold system, which allows automatic immobilization and release of the parking brake, is difficult to activate, requiring the user to look for the unusual term 'vehicle automatic traction' on the multimedia screen.

In terms of performance, the Captiva EV demonstrated agility in urban traffic, considering its weight and size. However, its cornering behavior could be more stable. Overtaking and acceleration on highways are not as exciting as in other electric vehicles in the same category, despite the Captiva EV having good braking systems. The range is considered minimally satisfactory for medium-distance trips. The announced price is R$ 219,990.
