The Indian cryptocurrency exchange WazirX reported a significant increase in futures trading volume by 236% from the beginning of July to the end of September. This growth resulted from the expansion of derivatives offerings, the introduction of artificial intelligence-based trading tools, and enhanced tax reporting and regulatory compliance features.
The company stated on Friday that peak trading volume in September exceeded early July levels by approximately 345%, and the number of daily futures traders increased by approximately 279% by the end of the quarter.

The expansion implemented by WazirX in July-September included the launch of perpetual futures denominated in USDT with collateral in Indian rupees, as well as the provision of an AI-powered trading assistant, automatic margin top-up, and a free platform for cryptocurrency tax reporting. These changes reflect the company's commitment to expanding access to derivatives trading while providing users with additional means to manage positions and track transactions.
In August, the exchange introduced INR-collateralized USDT crypto-futures, allowing users to trade supported contracts in USDT without prior conversion of rupees to USDT. INR markets continued to account for the majority of futures participation, although on some days in September, USDT contracts accounted for about 20-35% of daily trading volume, depending on market fluctuations.
The share of users trading USDT increased during the quarter, reaching approximately 15-18% by the end of September. WazirX also noted that profitable trades accounted for over 60% of all trades, but the company did not provide detailed information on the calculation or the period considered.
The exchange launched WazirX AI—a trading assistant designed to help users analyze market movements, review portfolios, navigate the platform, and execute trades through a single interface. The paper trading function allows users to test strategies without using real funds.
In September, this assistant was supplemented with support for USDT perpetual futures, currency portfolio views, and information on realized profits and losses on closed positions. Additionally, the company introduced a voice assistant in English and Hindi.
WazirX added take-profit and stop-loss control functions to its web platform and introduced an automatic margin top-up feature that can transfer funds from the user's available futures wallet balance to the corresponding position when additional margin is required. Although such tools help traders manage positions, they do not eliminate the risks associated with leverage in derivatives, where adverse price movements can lead to substantial losses.
