Gol announced a new integration with ChatGPT, allowing travelers to check in and generate their boarding pass directly through OpenAI's artificial intelligence assistant. This new service will be available to all customers starting October 19th, at no additional cost.
Currently, the functionality is in a phase of restricted testing. The airline stated that it will be the first aviation company in Latin America to offer this type of service, which can be used via both the application and the web version of ChatGPT.
With this integration, passengers will be able to view their trip details, select seats, confirm their flight presence, and obtain a digital boarding pass without needing to start the process directly on the Gol website or app.
To use this feature, the user must follow a few steps. After completing the procedure, the boarding pass will contain a QR code that can be displayed at the airport. Furthermore, the document can be saved or downloaded to the mobile wallet. It is important to note that this feature will be available to all ChatGPT users, including those using the free version of the platform.
Security and Protocols
Gol assures that the integration will respect the company's security protocols and the guidelines of the General Data Protection Law (LGPD). During the process, the system will direct the user to a specific login page within the company's official environment. This ensures that sensitive information and access credentials remain protected and are not exposed to ChatGPT.
Thus, authentication continues exclusively within the airline's environment, even when the request is initiated by the AI assistant. This integration represents the first phase of Gol's project involving generative AI. The company plans to monitor passenger reception and the effectiveness of the feature before deciding on the inclusion of other functionalities in the coming months.
This initiative follows a trend observed in other airlines seeking to bring the stages of the customer journey closer to AI assistants. In the United States, Southwest Airlines has also implemented integration with ChatGPT, initially focusing on destination search and flight option consultation, with plans to gradually expand the platform's use for travel planning and ticket purchasing.
In the specific context of Gol, the initial focus is on a phase after ticket purchase, meaning facilitating boarding organization through conversation with the virtual assistant.
