Amazon announced on Thursday that the Amazon Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2026 launched with the biggest opening in history, as customers in India ordered more than twice as many items compared to the previous year. The sale began for all buyers at midnight on October 8th.
Customers from all postal codes across India have already placed orders for smartphones, consumer electronics, fashion items, cosmetics, home and kitchen goods, and daily necessities. Amazon called this opening day the most active in the history of this sales event.
Millions of listings were delivered to customers within a few hours. In over 120 cities served by Amazon Now, one of two products was delivered in just minutes.

Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President of Amazon India, noted that early trends of AGIF 2026 exceeded the company's most optimistic expectations. He stated a record 100 percent increase in orders. According to him, residents of India, from large cities to small towns, prefer to shop on Amazon.in to get the best deals, the widest assortment, and fast delivery.
It was also noted that one out of two customers utilized installment plans (EMI), and one in every three purchased items received cashback. Prime members saved over 100 percent compared to last year thanks to special offers available only to Prime, which are featured in the most extensive selection of goods.
Sales of premium Android smartphones grew by 70 percent year-over-year, with products such as Apple iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra leading. MacBook Neo sales were 65 times higher than on a normal day, and premium security devices sold 80 times faster than a normal day, with Garmin, Apple, Samsung, and Amazfit being the leaders.
Sales of home entertainment goods increased 77 times; televisions of 55 inches or larger accounted for 65 percent of total TVs sold. High-end home theater systems sold 100 times more than usual in the first 12 hours, and there was also a surge in sales of major home appliances.
Fashion apparel sales reached seven times the volume compared to a normal day, with footwear selling at a rate of seven pairs per second. In the first 12 hours on Amazon.in, one out of four purchased items was a beauty product. Premium skincare and haircare sold over 150 units per minute, five times the normal pace. Luxury fragrances sold at 12 units per minute, four times more than a typical day. Air fryers and air purifiers sold 30 times more than on a normal day.
