A photo surfaced online during a demonstration against Chief Electoral Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi, showing student activist Neha Bora grabbing a female constable standing by a barricade. The constable herself has now shared details of her experience interacting with police officers during this protest.
The female constable, whose name is Nitu, is assigned to the Nangloi police station in Outer Delhi and was on duty in the New Delhi area during the protest. Speaking about what happened, Nitu described how she was treated while performing her official duties.
Nitu reported that when Neha Bora climbed onto the barriers during the protest, Constable Nitu also climbed up to bring her down. During this incident, Neha Bora grabbed the collar of her uniform and tore it using her nails. As a result of this confrontation, Constable Nitu sustained serious injuries to her arms and legs, after which she underwent a medical examination.
After this photo went viral on social media, Nitu has been subjected to constant attacks, including insults and harsh comments. She asked herself, 'Aren't we women police officers?' Nitu noted that female police officers participating in protests are subjected to abuse and violence.
The constable emphasized that she has no personal animosity towards the demonstrators, and they can hold their rallies, but police officers also perform their jobs and must be able to do so. Nitu added that despite being constantly hindered and having her conduct criticized, what is happening to her is also unjustified.
