Brazil reaches 40°C heat; South will face heavy rains and hail

A hot and dry air mass is dominating large parts of Brazil during this Thursday (8) and Friday (9). Temperatures are exceeding 40°C in regions of the North, Center-West, and Northeast, while the most intense rainfall is expected in the west and the South Region.

The climate scenario shows notable changes in the South Region, where instability tends to increase, potentially generating storms and hail. In other parts of the national territory, although the heat intensifies, some locations should still register showers.

Weather conditions in the North

In the North, the weather becomes more unstable in the western part, mainly affecting Amazonas, Acre, and Rondônia. On Thursday, these areas may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms. On Friday, showers persist in the west and northwest of Amazonas, while Acre and Rondônia record isolated rains.

In other regions, the climate remains hot and drier. Palmas (TO) is expected to reach 38°C on Friday, and Boa Vista (RR), Manaus (AM), and Rio Branco (AC) will reach 37°C on Thursday.

Situation in the Northeast

In the Northeast, the sun predominates, although the coastal strip may have scattered rains. The western coast of Maranhão is expected to be more unstable on Thursday. Teresina (PI) is expected to have a temperature of 40°C on both days. There are low humidity alerts in states such as Piauí, Ceará, Pernambuco, Bahia, and Maranhão.

Forecast for the Center-West

In the Center-West, Thursday will be marked by a stronger presence of the sun. There is a possibility of isolated rains in western Mato Grosso and in much of Mato Grosso do Sul. On Friday, instabilities grow in southern Mato Grosso do Sul, with potential for hail on the border with Paraná.

Goiânia (GO) is expected to reach up to 34°C on Friday, while Cuiabá (MT) will reach 37°C on both days. Brasília will have maximums of 32°C.

Climate in the Southeast

The Southeast will have a sunny day for most of Thursday, but São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and southeastern Minas Gerais may face rain with thunderstorms. On Friday, instability zones advance, increasing the probability of showers.

São Paulo is expected to reach 34°C, and Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte will reach 33°C. Vitória (ES) will record a maximum of 32°C.

Increase in instability in the South

Instability strengthens in the South Region already on Thursday. Rain intensifies at night in the western, southwestern, and southern areas of Paraná, as well as in much of Santa Catarina and in the northwest and north of Rio Grande do Sul.

On Friday, the risk of hail increases in various areas of Paraná and Santa Catarina, including the cities of Curitiba and Florianópolis. Rio Grande do Sul will also have rain and thunderstorms, with storm warnings in several points. Despite this instability, temperatures rise slightly on Friday: Curitiba reaches 27°C, Florianópolis 25°C, and Porto Alegre 24°C.

The weekend will be characterized by heat and dry weather in most of the country, while the South will be subject to conditions most favorable for intense rains, storms, and hail.
