Local Investor Consortium Takes Over LekkeSlaap Booking Platform Management

The LekkeSlaap booking platform, founded in Cape Town, has been acquired by a consortium of local investors, marking a new chapter in South Africa's success story.

Co-founders Jonathan Womersley and Marcel van der Ginste are stepping down after 16 years of work that began in a garage in 2009. During this time, the brand has served over 9 million guests and listed more than 40,000 properties.

The new ownership structure is led by Bellair Road Investment Partners and Janic Capital, supported by Ferreira Family Office, Moolman Family Office, and Investec. The LekkeSlaap executive team, including CEO Frans Jubert, will remain in place.

Womersley emphasized that after so many years, it was more important for him to find new owners who shared the company's culture and vision.

Marcel Boezart from Bellair Road called it a proud achievement for South Africa and expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the brand. Jubert, continuing to lead the company, stated that LekkeSlaap remains independent in spirit, but with the support of new partners, the company can set even more ambitious goals.

New Leadership and Ambitions

Herman Bosman, a corporate veteran who previously headed OUTsurance and Fortress Real Estate, and worked at RMB and RMI, has been appointed as chairman. He is joined by Robert Paddock, an EdTech operator who co-founded GetSmarter and Valenture Institute. Both new leaders have invested their own capital into the company.

Bosman believes that LekkeSlaap demonstrates the potential of South African entrepreneurs capable of achieving success if they adhere to a strong idea and do not give up. He also noted that for travelers and hosts, nothing will change tomorrow, and the booking process will remain the same.

Jubert's ambition is to 'put Africa on the world map.' This implies deepening expansion across South Africa, increasing investment in technology and localization, and improving the experience for both guests and hosts.
