Prime Minister Modi opens Indian Mobile Congress, emphasizing the importance of 5G and bridging the digital divide

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026. This major technology and telecommunications event in the country is taking place from October 7 to 10 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. This event marks the tenth edition of IMC.

During the opening of IMC 2026, Modi thanked the attendees and noted that this is a special day for India. He also mentioned that he has completed 25 years working for the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to actor Nana Patekar.

Modi stated that over the last ten to twelve years, the mobile phone has transformed into a management tool, contributing to the development of 'Digital India.' Thanks to mobile devices, even children from remote villages and underprivileged sections of society are receiving better education.

He also emphasized that during the coronavirus pandemic, mobile connectivity allowed work and studies to continue, which was made possible by new technologies. Children from remote areas were able to benefit from digital learning, particularly through the 'Diksha' platform for online education.

The Prime Minister noted that government programs and subsidies are now easily accessible to the masses. Furthermore, he announced the expansion of the telecommunications sector in India, including developing connectivity in remote areas and reducing data costs.

Currently, 50 million people in India are involved in gaming and contribute to esports. With affordable data, everyone benefits, and the content creation industry in India has reached a multi-billion dollar valuation.

Modi stressed that phone security and network security are priorities for everyone. Users can now know who is sending messages and calls and can determine if calls or messages are fake. He warned that cyber fraud and cybercrime know no borders, necessitating the development of a global framework to combat cyber fraud and create mechanisms for its prevention.

The theme of the Indian Mobile Congress IMC is 'Scale Without Boundaries.' The event showcases new technologies such as 5G, 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and satellite communication. Major global technology and telecommunications companies, startups, and renowned industry figures are participating in the event.

IMC 2026 will serve as a major demonstration platform in Asia, where leading global technology companies and new startups will present their products and demonstrate future technologies. Discussions will cover how to transition from 5G to 6G in the telecommunications sector.

There are also plans for a discussion on how artificial intelligence can be developed within the country and utilized for the benefit of the people. Startups will have the opportunity to present their AI-based products. This year, other innovations such as intelligent mobility and industrial robotics, which may be used on a large scale in the future, have also been added. Their demonstrations and exhibitions are also scheduled.

Visitors interested in exploring new technologies and viewing demonstrations at IMC 2026 can register. Entry for students and visitors is free. Registration is available through the official IMC portal.
