Medical and wellness trips turned out to be the most expensive among all types of travel undertaken during the year. In rural areas, the average cost for such trips was 29,454 rupees, while in urban areas, this amount reached 41,649 rupees.
More than seventy percent of total expenses were directed directly to medical treatment. Furthermore, pilgrimage or religious purposes accounted for the largest share of all trips (48.7%).
According to the report, ten percent of the funds spent on health and medical trips went towards accommodation. This was followed by five percent for food and beverages, and another five percent for transportation.
In the two other major travel categories—leisure, recreation, and relaxation—as well as in the pilgrimage and leisure category, the largest share of expenses was allocated to transportation. Regarding overnight trips for shopping, the largest portion of costs, which was not surprising, was directed towards the purchases themselves.
