The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that it currently lacks sufficient information to assess the death of an employee from a Russian institute, who may have died from plague caused by pneumonia.
Initially, in some versions, the death was linked to an alleged pathogen release at a Russian research center.
The organization's Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, reported that WHO has requested additional details regarding laboratory tests conducted on the deceased person and their contacts, as well as more detailed information about the reasons for public health measures and the health status of these contacts.
The UN agency's representative added that the organization currently does not have a complete picture of what happened and, therefore, cannot conduct a comprehensive risk assessment.
