Jaguar reveals electric Type 01; Porsche plans to unveil new supercar in Paris

Jaguar has finally unveiled the Type 01, an electric grand tourer that symbolizes the brand's rebirth. This vehicle features a futuristic and minimalist design, distinct from any previous Jaguar model, to the point where it is difficult to identify without the manufacturer's emblem.

Although the Type 01 does not differ significantly from the concept version shown a year ago, elements have been added to make it more suitable for public road use, such as rearview mirrors, four doors, an expanded glass area, and a more functional interior. Jaguar maintained the characteristic design of the LED strip headlights and taillights.

Despite Jaguar suggesting that the name 'Type 01' refers to a classic British GT and references the brand's heritage, the current design does not resemble any previous Jaguar. However, the car presents a ready-to-drive concept look and attracts significant attention.

The interior, which had already been partially shown, maintains a horizontal architecture and a clean design. It features a two-spoke steering wheel and seats, along with a 24-inch screen that functions as the instrument cluster and multimedia center. There is also a smaller seven-inch vertical screen on the center console for air conditioning and audio control (with 38 speakers), and a third screen at the base of the windshield, called the ClearSight Rear View Display, which replaces the rear glass.

Jaguar's ambition is to compete with Bentley, but the minimalist design, despite using high-quality materials and excellent finishing, does not convey an aura of ultra-luxury, which is considered a bold approach.

Technically, the Type 01 uses three combined electric motors, generating 1,029 hp and 139.2 kgfm of torque, powered by an 118 kWh NMC battery with an 850V architecture. Jaguar assures a range of 644 km and the ability to fast charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes using the 350 kW system. Orders for the Type 01 will begin in early 2027, with deliveries expected in the second half of the year.

Honda City 2027 is launched; Gasoline Porsche Macan returns in 2028 and Dodge Charger shows preference for combustion engine

Honda has revealed the 2027 lineup of the City, which received a significant aesthetic update inspired by the Prelude coupe, in addition to a new top-tier RS version and subtle adjustments to various components. Visually, the design was modified to resemble the Prelude, notably in the shape of the headlights and grille, which now feature a cleaner and straighter look. The rear lights remain identical on both the sedan and the hatchback, with only the bumper updated to harmonize with the new front end; the sides remained unchanged.

Internal improvements focus on the ten-inch multimedia center, available in the Touring and newly launched RS configurations. The LX, EX, and EXL versions continue to use the eight-inch screen, but all support wireless mirroring for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Starting from the EXL version, the instrument panel becomes a seven-inch digital display, and the cabin is equipped with new Type C USB ports and wireless charging. In terms of safety, all models have six airbags, and the Honda Sensing package is available from the EX version.

The RS version, exclusive to the hatchback, replaces the old Touring Sport and emphasizes the sporty appeal, adding a gloss black roof, mirrors, and spoiler, darkened 16-inch wheels, a sporty exhaust outlet, and interior details with red stitching. Mechanically, there were no changes; the 2027 City maintains the 1.5 naturally aspirated flex engine with direct injection, capable of generating up to 126 hp and 15.8 kgfm of torque, coupled with a simulated seven-speed CVT automatic transmission. The hybrid i:HEV version, sold in Asia, will not be introduced in the national compact car at this time, expected to appear in Brazil only in 2028, in the new generation of the HR-V, maintaining the focus of the naturally aspirated model on low consumption, reaching up to 15.3 km/l on the highway with gasoline in the sedan and 15.1 km/l in the hatchback.

Pre-sales for the new Honda City begin on October 3rd, and the first 3,000 buyers (distributed equally between 1,500 hatchbacks and 1,500 sedans) will maintain the 2026 price list. Official prices range from R$ 117,700 for the entry-level LX version (same price for both body types) up to R$ 156,400 for the top-of-the-line RS version. Other configurations are: EX (R$ 137,400 for the hatchback and R$ 138,400 for the sedan), EXL (R$ 144,800 for the hatchback and R$ 145,800 for the sedan), and Touring (R$ 153,300 for the hatchback and R$ 154,300 for the sedan).

Ford discreetly introduced the Lariat version for the Maverick pickup, positioning it as a new entry option with a price of R$ 209,900, representing a reduction of R$ 10,000 compared to the Black version, which remains in the catalog. This strategy aims to compete directly with models such as Fiat Toro, RAM Rampage, Chevrolet Montana, Volkswagen Tukan, and BYD Mako.

Despite being a more affordable version, the Maverick Lariat offers a good set of standard equipment, including an electric sunroof, an eight-inch digital instrument panel, a SYNC 4 multimedia center with a 13.2-inch screen, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, wireless charging, an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and dual-zone digital air conditioning. Safety features include seven airbags, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and a 360-degree external camera.

What defines the entry position of the Maverick Lariat is its more sober appearance, featuring 19-inch wheels with 225/55 tires, in contrast to the 17-inch set and mixed tires of the Black version, as well as the absence of decorations. Its mechanical setup is identical to that of the Black: a 2.0 EcoBoost turbocharged gasoline engine, delivering 253 hp at 5,500 rpm and 38.7 kgfm of torque at 3,000 rpm, combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Porsche confirmed the return of the gasoline version of the Macan SUV. CEO Michael Leiters informed The Financial Times that the Macan will return to using an internal combustion engine starting in 2028. Previously, in early 2019, Porsche had announced that the new generation of the Macan would be exclusively electric, an initial step towards the model's total electrification, which occurred gradually, with the global discontinuation of the combustion engine model occurring in July of this year.

Leiters admitted that his reputation as a skeptic regarding electric vehicles is unfair, but justified that the fastest way to recover the company's profits, affected by falling sales in China, is by developing new combustion SUVs and sports cars. He believes that the resumption of the gasoline Macan version, one of its biggest successes since 2014, is the shortest path to this.

According to the executive, Porsche needs to rebalance its propulsion strategy, offering a more balanced portfolio between electric and combustion options. Recent data supports this decision: in the first half of 2026, electric version sales fell by 40% compared to the previous year, while the gasoline model registered a growth of 2% in the same period, even outside the European market. The new 2028 gasoline Macan will be marketed alongside the electric model, without replacing it. Meanwhile, Porsche continues the project for the fully electric fourth-generation 718, and Leiters reinforced that there are no plans for an electric 911.

A partial sales report released by Stellantis demonstrated the persistent demand for combustion engines, especially among enthusiasts. The data indicates that the remaining gasoline versions of the Dodge Charger were sold in significantly higher numbers than the electric variants: for every electric unit, fifteen gasoline units were sold.

Between July and September, the combustion engine Charger registered 3,446 units sold in the United States, a significant increase of 1,348% compared to the same period in 2025, when only 238 units were from the old stock. The current gasoline line is equipped with the 3.0L Hurricane biturbo inline six-cylinder engine, available in R/T and Scat Pack versions for coupe and sedan, deliveries of which began between late 2025 and early 2026.

In contrast, the electric Charger Daytona had only 233 registrations in the third quarter of 2026, representing a drop of 92% compared to the 2,776 sold in the same period in 2025. This disparity reflects the consumer rush in 2025 to take advantage of the federal tax incentive of US$ 7,500 before its expiration in September of that year, combined with the current North American market trend favoring combustion and hybrid cars.

Considering the period from January to September, the difference, although less drastic, remains clear: the gasoline Charger totaled 8,029 units (an increase of 330% over 2025), while the 100% electric version accumulated only 767 registrations (a decrease of 89%). Besides the resistance of purist audiences to full electrification, price also influences the choice, given that the gasoline Charger R/T starts at US$ 49,995 and the Scat Pack at US$ 54,995, values significantly lower than the US$ 59,995 of the electric Daytona Scat Pack. This reinforces Dodge's decision to relaunch the Charger with a V8 engine, expected in 2027 or 2028, accompanying the model's restyling, with the return of the Hellcat anticipated, driven by the success of RAM pickups with naturally aspirated and supercharged V8 engines in the United States.

Automotive News: Combustion BMW 3 Series, Fiat Argo X, Electric Range Rover Sport, and Porsche Multimedia

The automotive market has received several new developments, including the launch of the new combustion engine BMW 3 Series, initial glimpses of the Fiat Argo X, the electric version of the Range Rover Sport, and a multimedia update for classic Porsche models.

New Combustion BMW 3 Series

After just over six months since the electric variant, BMW introduced the new combustion engine 3 Series, identified by the code G50. Although both are named 3 Series and share strong visual similarities, they utilize distinct platforms. The visual identity follows the Neue Klasse style adopted by the manufacturer, with standardized headlights and taillights.

The combustion 3 Series features a more elongated hood, indicating its basis on the CLAR II platform, an evolution of the previous generation's architecture. BMW highlighted improvements such as widened front and rear tracks and a revised steering system, making it more precise and communicative. In contrast, the electric i3 model is built on the NAx architecture, the same one used in the iX3 SUV.

The vehicle's design occupies a peculiar position; although new BMWs rarely receive unanimous acclaim at launch, the trend suggests that enthusiasts will become accustomed to them over time. However, the new 3 Series carries the weight of the Neue Klasse name, referencing the iconic 1960s BMW 2002 without direct visual references, which might displease purists.

On the other hand, the G50 aligns with the brand's modern trend, presenting cleaner lines and more balanced proportions, eliminating excessive creases and folds and the prominent grille that was the target of criticism. While it cannot be classified as ugly, current criticism points to an excessively generic character.

Dynamics remain a strength of BMW. In the 3 Series G50, the highlight is the new M350 xDrive, which tops the combustion line in the absence of a new M3. This engine uses a classic 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six, complemented by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. Power reaches 443 hp, allowing the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.

A notable feature for enthusiasts is the system called 'Drift Moment.' BMW adapted a functionality typical of pure M models, allowing the xDrive system to disconnect the front axle, directing 100% of the power to the rear wheels for lateral maneuvers in corners.

For daily use, the 320 version maintains the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine, also with mild-hybrid assistance, generating 208 hp and coupled to the eight-speed transmission. The brand also confirmed the existence of an entry-level 318 version with 154 hp for Europe and anticipates plug-in hybrid versions for next year.

To accommodate these powertrains, the chassis tuning was specifically developed for the gasoline platform, incorporating a dedicated front suspension geometry, a recalibrated multi-link rear setup, and stiffer bushings compared to the electric model.

Internally, the differences between the electric and gasoline versions are minimized, and the cabin embraces the minimalism of the Neue Klasse language. The interior is dominated by an imposing 17.9-inch curved central display, focused on the driver, along with a new panoramic head-up display. The operating system is BMW OS X, based on Android, promising continuous updates and signaling BMW's commitment to reducing physical buttons on the dashboard.

In terms of dimensions, the G50 underwent a typical generational transition elongation to reinforce its road presence. The sedan now measures 4.76 meters long (5.2 cm longer than the previous one), is 1.85 m wide, and increased the wheelbase by almost 1 cm, reaching 2.88 meters.

Production was also segregated: while the electric i3 will be manufactured at the historic Munich headquarters, the entire combustion line of the new 3 Series will come from the Dingolfing assembly lines.

Considering the positive and negative aspects, BMW managed to find an intelligent way to preserve the mechanical essence that established the 3 Series, without neglecting what many consider the future of the industry. It remains to await the launch of the new M3.

Fiat Begins Revealing the Argo X

So far, everything known about the Fiat Argo X, which may be the brand's most relevant launch in the coming months, came from journalistic investigations and unofficial photos. However, the Italian-Minas manufacturer has finally released the first teasers with details of the vehicle.

The details are limited, consisting only of the emblem with a square typography and a close-up image of what appears to be the headlight. An initial surprise is that Fiat apparently will maintain the pixelated headlight of the European Grande Panda, the model that will serve as the basis for the Argo X. This is not a common aesthetic solution and certainly won't please everyone, but it is undeniable that Fiat will preserve the tradition of incorporating playful and creative design elements, as happened with the New Uno last decade (although this also did not have universal acceptance).

It is crucial to note that the Argo X should present significant structural changes compared to the model sold in the international market, given that its apparent function is to gradually replace the current Argo in the brand's entry-level lineup. This reflects Fiat's pattern of adapting its 'national versions,' simplifying engines and suspension systems for the Brazilian market, aiming for greater price competitiveness.

It is certain that two different mechanical units will be used, depending on the version. The most basic configurations should employ the well-known 1.0 naturally aspirated Firefly three-cylinder, six-valve engine, which delivers 75 hp and 10.7 kgfm, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. More expensive versions may adopt the T200 Hybrid powertrain, equipped with a mild-hybrid system, producing 116 hp and 20.4 kgfm, always with a CVT gearbox simulating seven speeds. This engine is the same one used in the newly launched Jeep Avenger.

The Argo X is expected to arrive at dealerships soon, with projections pointing to the last quarter of 2026, although optimists bet on October.
