Foreign journalists examined achievements in Chinese agriculture

A group of foreign journalists visited Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China and observed the application of 'smart' agricultural technologies on one of the farms. According to Xinhua News Agency, the journalists paid close attention to unmanned harvesters in the fields, drones conducting low-altitude patrols, and data on soil moisture, movement direction, and the progress of agricultural machinery.

Scenes of data collection, displayed in real time on a large screen at the Digital Agriculture Control Center, made a particular impression on correspondents from foreign media due to their technological sophistication.

From September 27 to 30, about 30 journalists from countries such as the USA, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Cuba, and Singapore familiarized themselves with the region known as China's 'granary.'

An exhibition of agricultural machinery produced by local companies was held in the cities of Harbin and Jiamusi, in the demonstration zone for 'smart' agriculture. At the 'Heilongjiang Huida Technology Co., Ltd.' enterprise, journalists were impressed that locally produced agricultural equipment and solutions, including drones and intelligent irrigation systems, are exported to many countries and regions.

At the border of a 1000-hectare farm, they witnessed unmanned harvesters operating along pre-set trajectories, drones patrolling fields for plant protection, and the digital agricultural platform tracking the situation in the fields in real time.

Yu Longtian from The Straits Times (Singapore) emphasized the ability to control and manage many stages of agricultural production via mobile phone. According to him, Chinese farmers are increasingly using technology to increase yields rather than relying solely on manual labor.

Yaroslav Danilenko, an employee of the National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus, expressed admiration for the role of artificial intelligence in agriculture. Autumn grain crops, which form the basis of China's annual grain production, are currently being harvested.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, thanks to steady progress in modernizing agriculture and rural areas, China may achieve a record grain harvest in 2026.

For China, which has long supplied nearly a fifth of the world's population with food, ensuring stable food supply is a priority task. However, this task is becoming increasingly complex amid geopolitical uncertainty and more frequent extreme weather events.

Despite the obstacles, the volume of annual grain production in China remained above 700 million tons in 2024 and 2025. The grain supply per capita exceeded 500 kg, which is above the global average. After achieving these results, China announced a plan to modernize its agriculture.
