Argentina, jointly with Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil, submitted an official application to host the Rugby World Cup in 2035. Argentina, which has reached the semifinals three times, announced its intention to hold the men's tournament in 2035 together with several other South American countries.
Previously, the 2027 tournament will be held in Australia, and the United States will host the next edition for the first time in 2031. Argentina is the only country to have reached the World Cup semifinals but has never hosted it. Although Argentina previously expressed interest in hosting the tournament, this is the first time they have become official candidates.
On Monday, Argentina submitted the technical information required for the application to World Rugby along with Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil. Félix Paes Molina, president of the Argentine Rugby Union, noted: 'The submission of this candidacy represents a very important step for Argentine rugby and the entire region.' He added that they have a chance to demonstrate their passion for the sport, their ability to organize major events, and everything their countries can offer.
World Rugby will decide on the winner in November 2027. Argentina has participated in all World Cups since the first edition in 1987. As for the other teams, Uruguay has qualified six times, and Chile twice, while Brazil has never made it to the World Cup. It is worth noting that Spain has already announced its candidacy for 2035, and Japan, which hosted the tournament in 2019, has expressed the intention to do the same.
