Danger of Hemorrhoid Treatment by Unprofessional Doctors: Incident in Kanpur Raises Concerns

In Kanpur, a patient suffering from hemorrhoids followed the advice of a traditional healer (Nimbhakim) and began using heated stones for compression. However, during the procedure, a stone entered his body. The patient's condition rapidly deteriorated, and only after surgery to remove the stone, which weighed about one and a half kilograms, was his life saved. The patient told doctors that his condition worsened because he followed the healer's advice instead of consulting a qualified physician.

Following this incident in Kanpur, it became evident how important it is not to consult with non-professionals or healers when treating hemorrhoids. Surgeon Dr. Brahmanand Lal explained to Aajtak.in what the correct and accurate method of treating this disease is and why it occurs.

Hemorrhoids are an inflammation of the veins around the anus. Symptoms can include bleeding during defecation, pain or itching around the anus, the appearance of lumps, and sometimes discharge during bowel movements. The risk of developing hemorrhoids is higher in people who have suffered from constipation for years and cannot resolve it.

Inserting a hot stone or any other object into the body to treat hemorrhoids or applying pressure with objects is not a recognized medical method. This can lead to injuries, burns, bleeding, infections, and internal organ damage. The patient in Kanpur encountered exactly such a serious situation.

Hemorrhoid treatment is tailored individually based on the patient's condition and medical indications. If the disease is in its early stages, doctors may recommend a high-fiber diet, plenty of fluids, avoiding constipation, and refraining from excessive straining during defecation. In some cases, medication is prescribed.

Dr. Brahmanand Lal noted that surgery may be required if symptoms become severe, such as if the patient experiences severe pain or frequent bleeding. Furthermore, surgical intervention is necessary if the lumps increase in size or if the disease keeps recurring even after taking medication.

Dr. Lal strongly advises never to rely on folk remedies, healers, or unprofessional doctors when treating hemorrhoids. If any signs of hemorrhoids appear, one should always seek consultation from qualified and authoritative specialists.
