Chaos erupted at the Pariyam Medical College in Kannur, Kerala, following the death of a 47-year-old woman named Fatima during a heart operation. The deceased's family accused the hospital of serious negligence and demanded a full investigation into the incident. After filing a complaint, the police registered a case, and the hospital administration initiated an internal review of the event.
According to the family, Fatima was brought to Pariyam Medical College for treatment. Doctors informed relatives that she would undergo 'key-hole surgery.' However, the family claims that during the operation, the procedure was changed to bypass surgery, and they were not informed of this change.
Relatives state that Fatima's condition suddenly deteriorated during the operation. An emergency situation arose, but the doctors did not notify the family. Shortly thereafter, the woman passed away. Following this, the family began questioning the hospital's methods and the procedures used during her treatment.
Based on the family's complaint, the Pariyam police filed a case under Section 194 BNS. The police are currently examining the circumstances of death and the entire course of treatment. Officials await autopsy results, which will determine the true cause of death. Meanwhile, the hospital administration has ordered an internal investigation into the matter.
In protest against the incident, the youth wing of CPIM, DYFI, organized a demonstration march near the medical college. It will only become clear what the real cause of the woman's death was and whether any medical negligence occurred after the completion of the police investigation and receipt of the autopsy report.
