The Western Cape Education Department has implemented a comprehensive support system aimed at improving student performance and enhancing the mental well-being of learners preparing for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in 2026.
The Minister of Education for the Western Cape, Jacob Londt, announced that 71,302 full-time candidates are scheduled to take the NSC exams, alongside 13,834 part-time or re-examination candidates.
The examination period is set to begin on October 13th with the practical computer applications exam and will run until November 25th, covering seven weeks and 28 examination days.
Available Learning Resources
To provide additional assistance to students, the Western Cape Education Department has launched a range of resources specifically designed for graduates. These resources include past examination papers and memoranda, video lessons, and subject-specific academic support to equip students with the necessary tools for successful examination completion.
Furthermore, practical information regarding funding options for further studies is available, as well as free internet access through Western Cape Government eCentres.
Recognizing the psychological pressure associated with such significant educational milestones, the department places paramount importance on the mental health and well-being of students. Londt urged all students experiencing anxiety or stress, as well as adults concerned about their mental state, to seek help.
He emphasized: 'You are not alone; help is available,' referring to the Safe Schools Hotline at 0800 45 46 47—a free service connecting students with appropriate assistance from government departments and non-governmental organizations.
