In small towns and villages where employment opportunities are limited, many people seek to move to large metropolitan areas in search of better earning prospects. One of the growing trends in recent years has been working as a courier or motorcycle taxi rider, which has provided many people with job opportunities.
The story of one such person is Lakshman Kumar, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. After starting work in the delivery sector, he was able to change his family's situation. He now earns significantly more than before, bought an Apache motorcycle for his younger brother, and used his savings to open a grocery store in the village for the family's needs.
Lakshman Kumar shared his experience in a podcast. Previously, he worked for a private company in Tamil Nadu doing aluminum work, earning about 30-35 thousand rupees per month. The job there required long hours and obedience to the boss's instructions. Then he moved to Noida and started working as a courier, which led to drastic changes in his income and lifestyle.
Lakshman emphasized that the biggest change he felt was gaining freedom through delivery work. Now he determines his work schedule according to his needs and income level. He notes that the more he works, the higher his earnings, and this principle appeals to him the most.
Currently, Lakshman works about 13-14 hours daily. He starts working around 8:30-9:00 AM after waking up around 8:00 AM, takes a break for about an hour during the day, and then continues working until 10:00 PM-11:00 PM, sometimes until midnight.
Regarding income, his daily earnings are about 1800 rupees, and on good days, it exceeds 2000 rupees. His monthly income reaches 40-50 thousand rupees; there was a period when he earned about 25 thousand rupees per week.
Speaking about his family, Lakshman, who is a gig economy worker, mentioned that his family includes parents, a wife, and two younger brothers. His father was previously a driver, but due to health problems, Lakshman had to take responsibility for the family early on. He is now the main provider.
His younger brother is preparing to join the army. Lakshman wants his brother to be able to prepare without financial worries. Since his brother needed a motorcycle for travel and studies, Lakshman bought him an Apache with his earnings. He assured that he would take care of all his brother's needs, leaving him only the need to work hard.
Furthermore, Lakshman created another source of income for the family in the village. About five or six months ago, when he returned to his hometown, he opened a grocery store using savings accumulated from delivery work. He explains that since his parents live in the village, having a store near home will provide the family with an additional source of income.
Now his next goal is to help both younger brothers become self-sufficient. He has already involved one of his brothers in delivery work and is training him. Lakshman believes that his great responsibility will only be fulfilled when both brothers become self-reliant. For him, delivery has ceased to be just a way to earn a daily living, transforming into a path to the development of the entire family. Thanks to the motorcycle for his younger brother and the family business opened in the village, his family has achieved significant success.
