Explanation of the flashing indicator on an electricity meter and its relation to bill payment

Electricity meters contain numerous small LEDs and indicators, each serving a specific function. Some show energy consumption, while others signal load, leaks, or attempts to tamper with the meter's operation.

Among these indicators is a red LED that flashes constantly. The speed of this blinking is an important indicator that needs to be known, as it is directly related to the amount of the electricity bill.

If this indicator blinks slowly, it means that the household's electricity consumption is within normal limits and no high-power appliances are running. However, when high-power devices such as heaters, boilers, or air conditioners are turned on, this indicator begins to flash faster. This indicates a significant increase in electricity usage.

Constant fast flashing of this indicator points to the activation of devices and machines consuming a large amount of energy, leading to excessive costs. Sometimes this rapid flashing occurs due to a malfunction, even if heavy equipment is not turned on. There is a way to check: you should disconnect all appliances in the house and leave the main circuit breaker (MCB) switched on. If the indicator continues to flash rapidly and the meter readings increase, it indicates a fault with the meter itself.

Sometimes this malfunction can cause a meter skipping issue. In such a case, the meter's red light starts flashing rapidly without any high-power appliances being turned on, and the meter reading increases. If these signs are ignored and the problem is not fixed in time, it will negatively affect the electricity bill, potentially leading to a very large bill.
