Furthermore, actions were taken at various food establishments in Mumbai due to violations of sanitation and food safety rules. The FDA conducted inspections in numerous locations, seizing prohibited products and arresting three individuals.
Cases were also registered in the Pune district regarding the discovery of milk contaminated with chemicals. Ethphon is a chemical substance that controls plant growth; its use leaves harmful chemical residues. During this operation, 1394 kilograms of bananas, valued at 67,814 rupees, were confiscated.
According to the agency's statement, inspections were carried out at 11 food establishments: five in the western suburbs and six in South Mumbai. At the Nom-Nom restaurant in Borivali, multiple violations were found, including improper food storage temperatures and lack of bill auditing. Additionally, flies and insects were discovered in the restaurant.
At the cafeteria of R.N. Kapoor Municipal General Hospital in Vile Parle, inspectors found several deficiencies in the operations of Satkar Caterers. There was no system for separate storage of raw and cooked dishes, and flies and cockroaches were observed.
At 'Suraj Lama Momos' in Andheri, the co-storage of food products and cleaning chemicals was discovered, along with inadequate sanitary conditions.
Measures were also taken against 'Tardev Lunch Home' and 'Shagun Veg Restaurant' in Mumbai Central for non-compliance with kitchen cleanliness standards. Food was not stored properly in refrigerators, and flies were seen on uncovered products. Gaps in documentation and sanitary norms were also identified.
In 'Roshan Bakery' in Majhagaon, the FDA team found rusty and dirty baking utensils. Food was stored openly, and packaging not intended for food and reused oil were found.
The agency confiscated prohibited food products worth 31.14 million rupees across three locations in Mumbai. Three First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed, and three people were arrested in connection with this case. In Palghar, the FDA conducted checks at two locations, confiscating prohibited pan masala, gutkha, and related tobacco products.
In the Pune division, in Malshiras of Solapur district, two cases were registered concerning the discovery of milk contaminated with detergents. 16,730 liters of milk, valued at approximately 6.69 million rupees, were destroyed. Overall, action was taken against all these establishments due to sanitation deficiencies, as well as the confiscation of chemically treated fruits and prohibited goods.
