HBO Max and Paramount+ to be unified into a single platform following merger

The merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery has initiated one of the most significant moves in the streaming sector: the unification of HBO Max and Paramount+ into a single platform.

This operation was finalized on Tuesday (6), resulting in the creation of the new Skydance, which now aggregates a vast collection of series, films, television channels, and streaming services.

However, the integration of the platforms will not happen immediately. According to the company, the process will be conducted gradually while the structures of the two services are harmonized.

This change aims to consolidate franchises and productions that are currently dispersed between HBO Max and Paramount+ under one umbrella.

Although the decision is to unify the services, the transition will not be instantaneous. The plan establishes a progressive integration of consumer-facing streaming services, keeping HBO Max and Paramount+ operating separately during this period.

This strategy allows the new company to carry out technological integration and organize catalogs before presenting the final product to the public.

The precise timeline for completing this union has not yet been disclosed. The main expected implication is the concentration of the catalogs of the two platforms, allowing content that currently requires separate subscriptions to potentially be accessible on a single service in the future.

This implies that productions from HBO and Warner Bros. may coexist with franchises and programs belonging to Paramount and its brands.

Despite this, the company has not yet disclosed all the commercial details of the new service, including how the subscription system will be structured after the integration. For now, the change is more of a strategic directive than the immediate launch of a new application.

More information about the integration

The integration of the streaming services is part of a larger project by the new Skydance, which aims to generate US$ 6 billion (about R$ 32 billion) in annual synergies over three years. The company plans to optimize operations and reduce costs while expanding the scope of its business.

The entity resulting from the merger possesses one of Hollywood's largest entertainment asset portfolios, in addition to a strong presence in the film, television, and streaming sectors.

This combination is expected to allow for the production and distribution of content on an expanded scale, leveraging the infrastructure of both involved companies.

The formalization of the acquisition marks the official beginning of Skydance, with David Ellison assuming the position of CEO, and the company beginning to manage a portfolio that includes some of the biggest names in global entertainment.

In addition to the union between HBO Max and Paramount+, the new company will face the challenge of consolidating two large corporate structures and converting the size achieved through the merger into effective growth. For the public, however, one of the most notable transformations will be the attempt to integrate HBO Max and Paramount+ into a single platform.
