A large-scale protest by nurses took place in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Hundreds of nurses, acting under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Medical Workers Association Intermediat, began a hunger strike in front of the famous Rajarathnam Stadium in Chennai.
The main demands of the protesting nurses are ensuring equal pay for equal work, guaranteeing permanent employment, and providing full job security.
During this protest action, the police took measures and arrested the nurses. Advocate Vartarajnan, representing the nurses' legal team, accused the government of fraud.
Vartarajnan stated that the TVK government committed a major betrayal against them. He reported that the government wanted to engage in dialogue, and the police conveyed this information to them. By decision of all 4000 nurses, only five representatives were sent to conduct negotiations at the secretariat. However, as soon as they entered the secretariat building, the police arrested them, which he called deception.
He continued that such an incident had never happened in the history of Tamil Nadu, and it constitutes a serious betrayal by the ruling TVK Vijay government. Vartarajnan emphasized their readiness to face any consequences, stating that they would remain in their positions no matter what. He also noted that the entire responsibility for what happened would fall on the head of the Vijay government, and he alone would be held accountable if anything happened to the nurses or anyone's life was harmed.
The nurses demand a monthly salary of 45,000 rupees, job placement, and resolution of issues related to intensive discharge. According to video recordings and reports, after the set deadlines expired and the nurses refused to leave the protest site, the police used force and detained them.
Strong dissatisfaction among medical personnel has been observed following this action, and the protesters continue to insist on the fulfillment of their demands.
