Italian archaeologists from the University of Salerno shared information about the progress of excavations conducted at the ancient settlement of Casalle-in-Pittari. This settlement is located in the Campania region and has connections to the Lucanians, one of the disappeared Italian peoples.
During the study of the remains of a sanctuary at this site, scientists discovered the inscription ASANAS. This inscription is a Doric form of the name of the Greek goddess of wisdom and war—Athena.
Previously, other inscriptions related to various deities were found in the territory of this same settlement. Among them are mentions of the goddess of harvest and fertility Ceres, as well as the god of the sky, light, and thunder Jupiter, in addition to nymphs.
