Water crisis intensifies in Latur (Maharashtra) due to lack of rain; residents have to wait for hours for water

In the city of Latur, Maharashtra state, the problem of water shortage has worsened due to the deficit in precipitation. In the village of Wadwal Nagnanat, which belongs to the Chakur district, the situation has become critical: residents have to spend many hours in queues to obtain water.

Even after waiting for a long time, each person manages to receive only five pots of water. This scarcity threatens not only the consumption of drinking water but also the satisfaction of other domestic needs of the residents.

In this village, whose population is about 11 thousand people, a huge amount of water is required daily. However, the water level in the wells and boreholes that supply the village's water tower is constantly decreasing, leading to a restriction on the volume of available water for rural residents.

Local residents note that the water shortage has begun to negatively affect livestock. They are wondering where to get water for domestic animals if there is not enough even for people. According to villagers, many farmers are forced to sell their livestock due to the inability to provide them with water.

The main reason for this crisis is considered to be the low amount of rainfall this year. Residents claim that during the monsoon season in Latur, only about 30 percent of the norm fell. Despite the fact that the hot season is still far away, water problems have already begun in the village, and residents fear further deterioration of the situation in the summer.

Rural residents have appealed to the administration, demanding that water be supplied to the village using government tankers. They have also called on officials to personally visit the site to assess the current water situation. Citizens warn that if measures are not taken soon, the crisis could become even more serious in the coming months.
