Adverse weather conditions led to the cancellation of 385 flights at Barcelona airport over the weekend

According to information provided by EFE, 220 flights were cancelled on Saturday, and 165 operations, including departures and arrivals, were annulled on Sunday.

Although the airport's managing company, Aena, usually does not publish aggregated cancellation data, considering this information the prerogative of airlines, a company source told the news agency that about 200 flights were cancelled this Sunday.

The airport's managing company does not have data for Saturday and has not established a direct link between cancellations and bad weather.

According to meteorological stations located near the airport, the accumulated rainfall on Saturday reached 80.3 liters per square meter, which is almost double the amount during the storm that occurred last Tuesday.

Civil defense does not have data on delays, but according to a list published by Aena, 51 flights scheduled between 3:00 PM and midnight this Sunday were marked as delayed. Thus, the total number of delays over the weekend should amount to several hundred.

Furthermore, according to the flight tracking portal 'Flightradar', 247 flights were cancelled on Saturday, accounting for 24% of all operations, and 510 flights were delayed, which is approximately half of the total.

The numbers of cancellations and delays this Sunday are lower than on Saturday—165 and 297 flights respectively—but they remain significantly higher than usual figures in rainy conditions.

Last Tuesday, also due to a storm, 113 flights were cancelled, which accounted for 11% of 1009 scheduled operations.
