Social activist Harbans Bhawaral, a known human rights defender, passed away in Brampton

A memorial event was held in Brampton, Canada, last Saturday evening, gathering various social and human rights activists, predominantly people from Punjab residing in Canada. They gathered to pay tribute to the memory of the well-known social and human rights defender Harbans Singh Bhawaral.

Harbans Bhawaral, who was 68 years old, passed away after a brief illness in Brampton on September 28. He was the editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine 'Sarokaran Di Awaaz.'

Activists recalled that Bhawaral dedicated his entire life to fighting for social causes, agitation, and protests that took place both in Punjab and during his time living in Canada. Furthermore, he contributed to the historical farmers' struggle that occurred near the borders of Delhi during 2020–2021.

Another memorial event is planned, organized by various farmer groups and left-wing organizations from Punjab, and it will take place on October 13.
