Zelensky announced on his social media account X about a productive meeting with Merz in Kyiv, which took place against the backdrop of air raid sirens triggered by airstrikes.
During the meeting, a 'aid package' worth over 1.3 billion euros was discussed, intended for Ukraine's energy sector before winter, as well as the supply of additional air defense systems, which is a critically important aspect of Ukraine's resistance to the Russian invasion.
Furthermore, 15 agreements and cooperation documents were signed in the fields of security, production, procurement, requests to German industry, and joint projects, the total value of which is estimated at 8.5 billion euros, according to Zelensky.
The head of state of Ukraine thanked Germany and Friedrich Merz, as well as all of Europe, for their support and assistance in protecting lives, accompanying his message with a video recording of Merz's visit, who visited Kyiv for the first time as Chancellor to hold a bilateral summit.
The German head of government stated that his trip, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Energy Katharina Reichert and a delegation of about ten companies from the defense and energy sectors, demonstrates support for the country occupied by Russia.
Merz's visit, which took place on this day, was the fourth visit by the German Chancellor to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022. In May 2024, Merz visited Kyiv together with French President Emmanuel Macron, then UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk.
